Enough with the excuses man it's embarrassing. There is no evidence Roy had trouble making 168. Roy fought all the way to heavyweight I guess you forgot that.
James Toney is sorely underestimated around here. The dude was physically smaller than Roy or Bhop and he was one of the top heavyweights of the early 2000s. Roy fought Ruiz and it was a big deal. Toney did it right after and nobody cared. I once looked up how much more massive the fighters he fought going up five weight classes like that were and it was like over 30 percent larger. That's around the same percentage of body mass Roberto Duran had to put on to fight at middleweight and super middleweight coming from lightweight.
Roy Jones started off professionally @ 154lbs and went all the way up to HW. James Toney started off professionally @ 160lbs and holds a KO win over Evander Holyfield @ HW. Thomas Hearns started off professionally @ 147lbs and won a title @ 175lbs. Bumlovkin, OTOH, can't go up 8 measly pounds because his nut huggers think he's too small...
No, actually I mentioned it right above. I also mentioned that Golovkin isn't as great as James Toney.
Well, Toney did score a knockdown against Ruiz and Jones didn't. Toney landed 50% more punches than Roy against Ruiz, but he also got hit 50% more times too.
At 160 Golovkin is waiting and hoping on some big fights. Canelo, Jacobs, Saunders, Eubank jr.....anyone of these fights (canelo more than others) is going to earn him millions and they would stand as big time fights in the US or UK. What does he have to gain by going up to 168lbs??? DeGale? Chavez Jr? Ward has already said he will stay at 175lbs now. Under no circumstance does GGG ever go to LHW so let's not even talk about it. He is a small middleweight and the biggest fights for him are AT middleweight. He's not ever moving up.
Remember when Roy was blowing away MWs one after the other? He moved up and up because he was so much better than the comp. If Golovkin was in his shoes , he would of spent his entire life in that poor MW division. This is why GGG will never be an ATG when his career is wrapped up.
I hope you apply this logic to Canelo, he has really big fights at 154. Ohh by the way, remember GGG fights for titles, belts and honor or has that changed. He is a large welterweight and the biggest fights for him are AT super welterweight. He's not ever moving up.
Toney was out of shape and had a short training camp for the Ruiz fight - and still took his ass to school..
Ggg fanboys.. GGG is a better boxer than Kovalev GGG Has a better chin than Kovalev GGG Has more power than Kovalev GGG knocked down Kovalev in sparring GGG would knock out Kovalev Benard Hopkins.. GGG should fight winner of Kovalev vs Ward GGG fanboys.. GGG is too small
They want everyone to move up and fight GGG even old retired boxers but mention GGG moving up and they flip out. They need to apply the same logic they do to GGG to everyone else and leave the smaller fighters alone.
