To reply to your second paragraph first... ... to speculate as to why Marg didnt move to the right as a pre-emptive measure, Cotto is a southpaw fighting orthodox. Moving to Marg's right puts him straigh in line for a straight left down the middle. I thought Marg's tactics were spot on! I agree that had he kept Cotto on the ropes it could have finished early, but why take that chance? Instead Marg was patient and simply took the knockout when it appeared rather than force it. On your first paragraph; I agree to a point, but Cotto's tactics didnt really change all that much from the first round to the last, and he took (in my opinion) five of the first six rounds. It was only when he started to tire (due obviously to the punches he'd taken) and started to miss that defeat looked imminent. For me clinching in the rounds where this started to happen would have saved him - whether this was on the ropes or in the centre. Hit and run was probably beyond him after 6/7 but agree that ideally that is what he should have done. This is mainly why I think Floyd would beat Marg. He'd adopt the same tactics as Cotto did in the first half of the fight, but he'd have the stamina to do it for twelve as he would not get caught as much as Cotto did. Never thought of it in the Hearns manner before though - you could be right. If someone brings it to the table he may not be able to step down!
Has anyone actually said it was a one-sided beatdown?? I cannot imagine how they could think that. I had it 5-5 going into the 11th. I thought it was an incredible fight, nothing even resembling a beatdown. There was actually a guy on here (admittedly he is well known for being a moron) yesterday, who had Cotto 8-2 up after 10 rounds!!
yep before the 11th i had it very close with the momentum on margarito's side it all started to go in margarito's direction after he briefly wobbled cotto in the 7th
Thats my thoughts, I had it 5-5 going into the 11th but with the momentum on Marg's side. Absolutely amazing fight!
