Moments ago inside of the M.E.N. Arena in Manchester, England, Amir Khan successfully defended his WBA junior welterweight crown with a six-round technical decision over Ireland's Paul McCloskey. The fight went to the scorecards in the sixth round as McCloskey was the victim of a head butt that caused a gash that was deemed too severe too continue, as Khan ruled 60-54 on all cards.

From the outset of the fight Khan dominated, darting in and out and landing combinations from awkward angles. McCloskey simply didn't have the speed or firepower to mount any kind of offensive attack early on and saw the early rounds slipping away from him.
The fifth was the most exciting round and McCloskey showed a little bit of fight and even managed to land a few counter left hands from his southpaw stance. Still, it was Khan's show as he fought back and seemed to overwhelm his overmatched foe with crisp combinations.

McCloskey's cut, suffered by an accidental clash of heads, was bad but the fight very well could have continued. His manager Eddie Hearn made a fuss about it afterwards but his man was clearly not on Khan's level no matter how you cut it.

Giving his take on the fight, Khan said it was almost easier than expected but showed respected to McCloskey's bravery.

"I was peppering him. He took a lot of good shots and he surprised me and Freddie. To be honest with you I was in there and it was so easy for me. Paul McCloskey is on the European level and I'm on the world class level."

Khan confirmed that he would love unify the belts and is eyeing a summer showdown with unified champion Timothy Bradley. The fight appears to be on course for Las Vegas but Khan said he will travel wherever need be.

"At the end of the day I love to fight wherever. I have fans everywhere."

I hate Floyd Mayweather more than any boxer who ever lived, but I would be rooting for him against Khan.

khan thinks he is way bigger than he really is, I still like him but he is in for a big surprise if he fights like this vs bradley.
