I stand corrected.

The 1964 Olympic Boxing Guide had Giuseppe Ros incorrectly listed at 6' 0".

The Muhammad Ali vs. Jurgen Blin program listed 'Bepi' at 5' 11" 223 lbs. and 29 years-old.

a type of shortening common in Italy.

Also, Lardo (bacon fat).

Giuseppe 'Bepi' Ros, one hell of an amateur in 1963 and 1964.
Nearly beat Hans Huber in the 1964 Olympic Heavyweight Semi-Finals, the same
Hans Huber that lost a razor-thin 3-2 decision to Joe Frazier in the finals.

How the hell did Bepi out-hustle Mac Foster for 6 Rounds, before getting slammed
around the ring.

Joe Bugner should have shot himself after this fight. No excuse for his non-performance.

 

Giuseppe 'Bepi' Ros had quick hands.

And was good enough that Ring Magazine listed him in their Top 25 ratings
more than a few times.

Was a better fighter than his image shows.

Was 2-2-1 (1 KO) versus Dante Cane, the same Dante Cane that Muhammad Ali was
looking to fight in 1972.

Some information on his bout with Joe Bugner; Italian Newspaper (translated)

Bepi Ros showed physical resilience, and was never hurt even when
absorbing the European Champion's best punches.
Joe Bugner was jeered by those in attendance, when he was unable
to shake the shorter man.
The surprise, was that Ros was able to graze the taller man's chin with
success, more often than not.

Top 10 World Ranked {7/68 thru 11/68}

Turned Pro; December 18, 1964 (age 24 1/2)

* Went 16-1-2 (14 KO's) in his first 19-bouts.
* Only blemish was a DQ loss (in his 10th bout) to veteran German Heavyweight Harry Kneipp.
* With a record of 17-2-2 (15 KO's), gets offered a Main Event fight in America, at Madison Square Garden.

Makes his American debut at Madison Square Garden in September 1967. In the Main Event,
Dante Cane knocks out (KO 1) Pennsylvania Heavyweight Jerry Tomasetti. Tomasetti had
stopped Chuck Wepner in his previous fight.

Reached Top 10 status in July 1968, when he stopped Top 25 fringe contender, Boston veteran
heavyweight Dick Hall (22-4-2) in 6 Rounds. Dick Hall would later to go on to beat Joe Bugner.

At the time, Cane was 22-3-3 (18 KO's), and looked to be a possible entrant into the
WBA Championship versus Jimmy Ellis.

Was considered a possible opponent for Muhammad Ali in late-1971 and 1972,
and again as a possible Title Challenger in early-1976.
