Itauma reminds me of David Haye

Incredible speed, great reflexes, excellent power, good movement, high boxing IQ.

However, exactly like was in Haye's case as well, people overestimate technicality of Itauma confusing his flashiness with skills. No doubt he is EXTREMELY talented fighter, but he has some obvious technical flaws in his game. For example, he leaves himself wide-open every time he throws that looping left swing/hook. It's pure technical mistake that can be exploited by competent boxer in dramatic fashion for a young man. Also, I noticed that while Itauma moves well and quick, he wastes a lot of energy for his movement. His footwork isn't economical, like say Usyk's, Loma's or Floyd's ones are/were. It requires tons of energy and it can be a factor if his opponent is durable enough, skilled enough or experienced enough to take him into the deep waters.

Overall I think Itauma is incredible talent, extremely gifted block. However I won't be surprised if he finds his Carl Thompson before reaching the top.

I agree with your observation about his technical flaws, will he polish his skills or will an opponent expose it?

If they get their wish and manage to stick his ass in with Usyk right off the bat… those flaws will be exposed real quick. Lol

Boxercise Ben is his trainer, so I ain't gonna hold my breath that he gets significantly better from a technical perspective.

That's kinda why I put $30 on Whyte to win. I think people are looking past Whyte, even a shot Whyte is better than anyone Itauma has faced yet.

It'll probably backfire, but 7/1 odds is definitely value enough for me.

I think Moses is going to tear through Whyte like a knife through hot butter. He's too fast and powerful.

That being said, Whyte can really crack, has an underrated ring IQ, and he can be wild and unpredictable when he attacks so he has a puncher's chance.

Also, I sensed a little fear or apprehension from Moses in his last fight vs Balogun at one point, as in he was a little concerned by Balogun's power. I might be completely wrong about that but I did briefly get that impression at the time

Whyte is obviously old now though and he's been very inactive and I do consider Moses, despite him still having a lot to prove, the real deal

Itauma will have to do well, he's only 20 which is insane. But McKean and Balogun is disproportional hype for me

Good post, thank you for providing real and articulate analysis instead of just saying “He’s a hypejob” over and over again.

I don't think Itauma is as powerful as Haye. Watching Whyte's interviews lately, he looks in great shape, seems a lot mentally calmer than he has in the past, and genuinely seems confident that this is too soon for Itauma. I'd be seriously shocked if he pulled it off, but I do think this isn't going to be the demolition job that people think. Whyte's crudeness will definitely work for him at times against such a technically proficient kid like Itauma. If he can tie him up, throw his weight about, and catch him with his left hook, it could make for a very interesting opening 2/3 rounds.

    Great analysis.

Will be incredibly interesting when Itauma steps up in opposition because the better the opposition, the more flaws that the opposition will expose. Especially as there are genuinely so many unknowns with Itauma and Whyte is a huge huge step up from anyone Itauma has fought.

Yep Whyte maybe shot but the only one sided ass kicking he has got was from Fury his other losses he was in the fight.

This is why I always think people saying to put him in with Usyk right now are overzealous.

But he has a seemingly very bright future ahead of him.
