Itauma - what now? All that hype for what?

His conditioning sucks for being an explosive fighter.

Interestingly, he seems to have a chin but gets visibly gassed after getting punched in the face...not sure what's with that.

 

I think Itauma may have shot his load at some point during the bout. As in literally shot his load. That's the most plausible explanation for such an inexplicable emptying of one's gas tank.

I was one of the few who did, and it went similar to how I envisioned
I pointed out far earlier in the fight that Itaumas hands were lowering, but that doesn't mean that I don't think Itauma did really well
Doing well doesn't always mean winning although that is the preference for everyone

Did you also pick for Hrgovic before the fight?

 

Substitute Itauma with Klitschko two decades ago and same thing. Not saying Moses will go on to achieve similar things but it is oh so early and as Hrgovic correctly surmised, he is very immature as a fighter.

 

Not having to be paranoid and cautious about protecting his "0" may be a good thing long term.

Wlad lost early in his career and then went on a run later.

I picked Hrgovic inside but take nothing away from Itauma.

 

Its a shame he has to learn a lesson in this manner but I think it will do him the world of good, still think he will become the dominant force in heavyweight boxing.

 

Filip Hrgovic just said in the post fight interview that Itauma was superior in every department, but lost because of inexperience. He also said he's the best HW he's ever shared a ring with.

I'm glad that I saw exactly what Hrgovic also saw.

And questioning his chin his ridiculous. He couldn't stand or defend himself, took flush punches and still didn't go down.

If you believe his Chin was the issue, this isn't the sport for you.

He's clearly a good fighter, but even while he was dominating, I wasn't seeing some future great. I've always been impressed by his explosiveness, speed, athleticism, and power, and those will take you far (especially now), but he has a considerable amount of technical flaws and sloppy mistakes. The crappy pacing and gas tank doesn't help, sure, but even at full capacity, he's leaky, has difficulty fighting off the back-foot, and quite susceptible to somebody with good timing down the pipe since the defensive responsibility/fundamentals are lacking.

All of that said, he can certainly improve and become an excellent title holder in the future.

 

The talent is real. The hype WAS justified IMO

He just had a poor plan - probably wanted to make a statement. You could tell from the weigh in and the press conferences his plan was to go for a KO and make a big statement. His head was in the wrong place.
