Ok so foreman falls ill a week before the fight and a young shavers steps in at the last minute. Round 1 begins and frazier comes out strong bobbing and weaving reaching out with his hook when... BAMM!!!! A huge hook from shavers drops frazier hard. Frazier gets up at the count of six, bangs his fists together and.......... What happens next? Can shavers punish and finish a hurt joe the way big george did? Does joe have the defence and chin to survive the onslaught? What happens next?
I don't think Shavers floors him like that. Foreman had real psychical strength and size over Frazier where he could man handle him and create room for uppercuts. and if he seriously hurts Frazier, Frazier will recover and go on to win based on his will, and based on Shaver's poor finishing abilities
And noone expected foreman to floor frazier like that. It's basically a question of durability on frazier's part. Is it true that any huge puncher would have ended his reign or is there only a handful of boxers who'd have done it? I agree with you, frazier recovers and goes on to be victorious.
I really think Foreman's success had to do with his psychical strength AND power moreso then a chin issue. Shavers may have hit harder then Foreman but I don't know if he could manhandle Frazier like that. I think Frazier's chin issues get a little overrated
I agree about his chin issues. That's why I did this thread, just too see what the general feel was about his chin.
Frazier has no chin issues. It's the way he fights. He swarms in. Shavers would get stopped. Of course Shavers could rock Joe, but Joe still wins this. Foreman was just in a different league than Shavers.
I agree with the views so far. Foreman stopping george was more to do with george's power than frazier's chin.
At the highest levels, Shavers, bless his heart, will always be a smiling, likable bridesmaid. Frazier--even the subpar Jamaica version--would outgun and outlast Earnie.
yeah, there's no way shavers could survive the onslaught from frazier. he got KO'd by jerry quarry, and although quarry was no laughing matter, frazier is all around better and a more powerful puncher. add in the fact earnie's accuracy is not too good, plus his own chin issues, stamina problems and poor finishing abilities, fraizer would get up to bob, weave and pound on big earnie like a punching bag.
It certainly would be possible for Frazier to get floored by Shavers just because Shavers is a beast and hurts nearly everyone he fought. However I just don't think Shavers has the finishing ability to stop Frazier. He never showed it in the big fights.
that's exactly the reason I painted this scenario. do people think joe could recover? do they think he had a solid chin that could be rattled and withstand some big shots, do they think he'd crumble, do they think he'd bounce back down again. I think he has a style weakness to hookers but I think only the most elite could dent his chin and only the most athletic could outpoint him. not sure if he's in my top 10 H2H but he isn't far off.
