It's a catch 22 with the Klitschkos.

They can't win. If they dominate the competition is weak. If the don't dominate the competition is strong but they still suck cause they aren't winning enough. The reason they aren't facing more titlists/HOF candidates is precisely because they have prevented so many guys from getting to the top.

It's the same argument with Federer. He dominated tennis 04-07 like never before in the open era so the competition was weak. If he hadn't of dominated the competition would have been strong, but he would not be great because he wasn't winning as much.

Klitschkos are not anything close to all time-great heavyweights
Federer is an all-time great tennis player

you are comparing apples to oranges

there is only one semi-legitimate threat that either Klitschko fought - and that was 38 year old past his prime Lennox

Vitali went life and death with him, had the slimmest of leads on the cards, and got stopped by the worst version of Lennox. That is the definition of a farce of a supposedly "great" heavyweight.

I don't the Klitschkos are even nearly as great as Federer, but it's the same type of argumentation. It's a relevant comparison as he is the possible GOAT of the sport. Whenever someone monopolizes an individual sport it's the inevitable counter-argument to their greatness.

Part of the problem with the Klitschkos is that they never fought each other, and that they're also aesthetically rather boring, brutish fighters.

    What does it matter.

They both are mediocre but they still will earn millions facing and defeating mediocre competition.
    It's really a win/win situation for them.

That they aren't ATG material is really irrelevant.
It is what it is. No one can have everything.

Federer faced comparatively far tougher competition than either brother has even during the weakest competitive points in his reign. To be fair, he couldn't pick and choose like the brothers, he had to face better opponents by default.

The HW division is visibly at it's weakest and has been so for the Klitschkos entire reign. It has nothing to do with the Klitschkos themselves, they aren't holding some crazy talent in the division down. Heavyweights are out of shape, lacking fundamental skills, and lacking heart for the most part. It is simply a terrible era, and the Klitschkos are the best of a bad lot.

The Klitschkos are the greatest heavyweights of all time and only Butthurt Americans won't see it.

Yeah it's the problem that all dominant champions have. They call Marciano's competition weak because he dominated everyone. They did the same thing to Larry Holmes. Some how those same people thought the 90's had great competition despite the fact that an ancient Larry Holmes was a top competitor. Idk, people seem to like losers. I mean I like Holyfield as much as the next guy, but I'm sure neither Klitschko would ever lose to Michael Moorer or John Ruiz. They beat everyone around right now, what else can you ask of them????

You can ask no more. They fought everybody and won.

The Klitschko's may not be the world's most exciting fighters, but they are some of the greatest. They just win.

And as far as heavyweights go, can anyone really....REALLY...imagine the likes of Joe frazier, Mike Tyson or Muhammed Ali beating the Klitschkos?

It's a difficult situation for the Klitschko's and while some of it is their doing there are also circumstances beyond their control that has contributed to their current situation.

The decline of US heavyweights and US boxing in general has left the division weaker. Fewer gyms, fewer talented big men becoming boxers with access to quality trainers has seen a significant drop in the quality of heavyweights.

The dividing of the division between the 2 brothers has left them a smaller pool of fighters to face.

While many 80's heavies were ruined by drugs this generation of heavyweights has succumb to the obesity epidemic and we are seeing many top contenders being in far from great shape.

So yes the division is weak and all they can do is dominate and keep winning. I will add though that Wlad's style is a part of his problem. He's a spoiler and nobody really appreciates a spoiler. He eeks out wins with a jab and grab style, he boxes cautiously when he is in total control, he looks to prevent a fight from taking place.

He has had 2 potentially career defining fights during his reign in Haye and Povetkin and on both occasions left a sour taste in peoples mouths and a negative image in their minds. People remember great fighters because of the great fights they have, Tysons KO of Spinks, Lewis' destruction of Golota and Ruddock, Louis dismantling of Schemling, Ali rope dope against Foreman. Wlad has no such significant and inspiring wins all he has a tedious fights with no drama, no thrills and no impact. Currently that is his legacy, it's not all his fault as he has no great rivals to raise his game against but some blame rests at his feet.
