the terms for the rematch states that each promoters pays his fighter...ward probably asking too much from roc nation
You said something very important BOTH PARTIES HAVE TO AGREE if they change anything from the clauses stipulated in the contract Main events & Kovalev want to fight for the belts in his next fight I really dont think they'll agree to drag it until September or later ( they wanted the fight to happen in April) , but maybe they will if Roc Nation will throw some cash at them, but chances of that happening are slim
I forget who it was now that Rahman was due to defend against before Lewis got the rematch. I can picture the fighter but not the name Edit... Just checked. It was D Izon. Rahman was not going to face Tyson or Lewis first
But that's the whole thing. If Ward can get Kovalev to make more concessions, why shouldn't he? He is the one holding the cards here. Unless Duva and Company just want to press forward without Ward for the time being.
I had to check. I couldnt remember the name but it was D Izon. I wonder how Rahman at that time and Tyson would have gone?
Going off of memory, this was after Tyson had fought Golota, which was IMHO the best Tyson had looked since the first Holyfield fight. But then I think the next year he faced Nielson, and Tyson looked horrific that night. I think there's a chance Tyson could have gotten to Rahman early during this period, but Tyson and Rahman both ran hot and cold around this time, so it's difficult to say. If pressed, I would favor Tyson in that one.
They'd have to pay Kovalev step aside money as his next in line for the belts. I know Jay Z has deep pockets but I'm not sure how much money he wants to lose on Andre Ward said when he was in England couple weeks ago that "he has to make a decision fast" , which makes me think its June or vacate Then he said he " has to fight Kovalev or retire, no warm up fights allowed" Its pretty simple
It's not about getting concessions from Kovalev, Rummy. It's between Roc and Ward. Andre isn't going to want to take less for a rematch to a fight he won. He's going to want a raise. Roc doesn't want to lose millions. They're on the hook for Andre's purse out of their portion of the proceeds. This is supposed to be the time where they recoup what they invested in him, not lose money hand over fist to build the brand on a fighter who may well have one foot out the door. That's where the holdup is. Duva is happy to milk it for the "we really won the first and he's scared of the rematch" angle, but what it really boils down to is that not enough money came in, and Roc is painted in a corner.
You know, the first fight was awesome and in a different way than most FOTY candidates (all out offensive slugfests with heart and grit). That fight everybody wanted to be a boxing judge, no other fight in recent times had people debating their round by round scores like that. I don't see anybody happy with no rematch or the lack of news. The fans want a rematch and are just going to have to be patient. I suspect that there's a date already in mind and we'll hear about something in March or April.
I don't think ward holds any cards here. Look at the rankings for his titles. Who the hell could he possibly fight that would even get televised (not even mention what the fight is worth monetarily) ? Al Haymon will not work with Jay-z. Never. Forget Adonis or Beterbiev. Crazy to say but, at this point the best he can hope for is a Joe Smith fight. All roads lead to kovalev rematch.
**** Ward, **** his feelings and **** his apologists. Fight crusher of ****ing retire already. Go down in history as the american gifted a win against a Russian in one of the most blatant robberies of the decade.
