Grady Brewer is my favorite journeyman. He is a much better fighter than his record indicates. On August 22nd he was scheduled to fight Baysongurov for the vacant IBO title. However, Baysongurov has been scrubbed from the fight and replaced by Anthony Thompson. Grady is the man who took Thompson's zero when Thompson was 15-0. Grady didn't just take his zero. He stomped his ass and knocked him out in 3 rounds! This wil be a nice way for the 38 year old Brewer to cap off his career! http://www.miamiherald.com/sports/boxing/story/1134862.html
Sometimes it's the little things right? I liked Brewer a lot especially during The Contender (I still think that show has/had a lot of promise if done correctly) and he was certainly a fun guy to follow. That said I can't forgive Shady Grady for that fight against Bundrage. He owes me for that eternity I spent watching that fight.
Now that you mention it I think he does. Doesn't matter though. I'm not dissing him. All I'm saying is that Grady is going to stomp that ass AGAIN!! And about the Brewer/Bundrage fight; all I have to say is . . atsch
I think this is a bad fight for Brewer, Thompson was much younger and greener when they first fought. Thompson is in his prime and has arguably lost only once (against Brewer when he had 15 fights). Many people thought thought he beat Yuri "Boreman" and then he had that horrible tko loss last year, when the cut was obviously caused by a headbutt and not a punch.
I'm glad someone else appreciates journeymen. There's a lot of hard working guys that will lay it all on the line despite not having top notch talent and we should appreciate guys like that. The backbone of the sport.
Agree about Thompson being green, et. However, it's ironic and illogical, but at age 38 Brewer is fighting better than ever. The time period during the Contender was the first time he ever actually trained correctly for a fight. The rest of his career he trained after he put in an 8-10 hour work day, and did whatever his wife and kids needed him to do. This difference is obvious.
