It's about time HBO put Lampley out to pasture

Merchant was my favourite boxing analyst, always told like it was, no bull****. Very rare.

 

He made a fool of himself when Foreman fought Moorer. He generally acts as if he knows it all and was sour grapes when talking about Howard Cosell.

 

Lampley has always been just a cheerleader he cannot give an unbiased commentary. Kellerman is a pompous ass who only has the job because of his Daddies influence. Jones jr is jealous of hell of Hopkins still getting accolades & big fights while he was getting his ass Ko'd by everyone & his dog lol As for Larry Merchant I loved it when he said to Floyd " If I was 50 yrs younger I'd kick your ass" Made Floyd look smallAGAIN!!!!

 

Hopkins is a racist. If Kobalev said the things Hopkins said...

 

im from UK so dont see as much as some of you guys do , it does seem US networks have a lot of what i call "deadwood" commentating and doing interviews , they seem very out of touch with the modern boxing game and tend to live in the past too much . they certainly need to update there staff i would say . larry merchant is painful to watch and listen to in the after fight interviews it takes him forever to ask the question and a lot of his opinions are very biased . he really needs to be shown the door .

I agree COMPLETELY. I wouldnt be surprised if he was a racist by his commentary on the fight, but since that is a strong accusation w/o any definite proof, I will tune it down to just say he just really wanted Sergey to win.

I didnt know if anyone else picked up on this watching the fight, but obviously you did. Then after Bhop was classy in his post fight interview about Sergey's performance and the respect that was given, when it came back to Lampley and Max (I beleive), then Jim had no issue giving respect to Bhop as if he had to ensure Bhop was respectful in his interview.

 

It wasnt the fact that Bhop didnt look great, but he had moments and even Roy and Max at times when they gave Bhop props for certain things (i.e. slipping punches, landing counters here and there, etc...), Lampley quickly said something negative about it.

At the end of the day, no one (well I will speak formyself and say I...) is saying that Lampley or any other commentator has to brown nose fighters, all in all he has his rght to commentate as he pleases, I just thought it was pretty bias. Not the first nor last time we will hear bias commentating though.

 

Well I doubt the thread starter is expecting this post to get the attention of HBO. :-(

I think that's just because of what we're accustomed to. I've seen Skysports and I hate the commentating, it's just boring. But I believe it's what we're accustomed to, if I was from the UK I'd probably like the commentating.
