After the fight is always amazingly easy to say these things. I predicted that Kovalev would struggle at somepoint, but would still probably win.i hoped that Hopkins would win,and genuinely believed he would have a chance at winning. And lastly, usually when you are backing up the favorite you are correct.if underdogs would win more often than favourites it would be weird. Sometimes when predicting, after you look like genius and sometimes fool.
Caught up in the hype completely I was leaning towards Hopkins through the build up, just the fact that it was Hopkins and he actually wanted the fight I didn't think he'd take a fight were he'd get outclassed , but then before the fight started I was looking at their last too fights and I was thinking how could I have thought Hopkins would win it didn make any sense, Hopkins looked even less sharp again compared to his last fight against kovalev too
Hindsight is always 20/20. I picked Hopkins by ud or late stoppage and couldn't have been more wrong. However, let's not pretend that Kovalev is the second coming of Foster. I like Kovalev much more than Hopkins but Kovalev didn't beat Spinks last night. After last night, I think Kovalev v Stevenson is a 50/50 fight. Each has an equal chance of sparking the other out.
They were proven right again and again since the Trinidad fight. Every good thing eventually comes to an end, yesterday happens to be the day.
I picked Hop to win because I learned my lesson about betting against him. I wasn't 100% on that pick tho. The fight went how it should have. A sharp, younger fighter with power besting the 49 year old man. In no universe should Hopkins have won this fight, but it wouldn't have surprised us if he did. A testament to his greatness. Congrats to Kovalev. I like his fighting style and personality. Let's hope he makes more of this victory going forward than Dawson did.
Hopkins has defied logic for the past 10 years. It's always hard for me to pick against him because his skill level is so high. He's always found a way. Last night it just was not enough to overcome a younger fresher fighter.
