It's clear people don't understand what the consequences of being drained are

Some of you are under the impression that the only characteristic in being weight drained is having a weaker than normal chin.

This has led some of you to argue that a fight between chad and Andre at 175 would be the same but without the stoppage.

That argument is the most ridiculous nonsense I have read on a boxing forum in a long time.

First of all when you over train or in chad's case are weight drained the resulting ramifications are many: You have no energy, hence the fighter appears lethargic.

Your reflexes are extremely dulled, hence many fighters are often mistakenly believed to be washed up or over the hill.

Dull reflexes means you can't pull the trigger, your punch output and accuracy becomes very low.

You are incapable of getting a second wind.

Your legs will feel weak and you tend to get knocked down more. It is common for drained fighters to go down but not necessarily be hurt in the traditional sense.

But once seriously hurt drained fighters have no ability to recover.

Now for anyone to argue that chad would have lost the fight at his natural weight because ward's tactics and execution are simply on another level is either a moron or so bias that they fail to recognize that the drained fighter is completely incapable of caring out any tactics.

He is lethargic, cannot pull trigger, being hurt by punches he normally takes, and and does not have his legs under him so he can't punch with power.

Now if you believed before this fight that ward was better than Dawson even at 175 you could be correct.

But nothing in this fight substantiates that opinion. Ward's tactics and execution of said tactics cannot be judged because he had a dead man walking in front of him.

The simple fact is chad had no ability to carry out a fight plan so no one can judge how a fit chad copes with a fit Andre without it being nothing more than pure speculation. Only a fight with a fit chad reveals those answers.

Anyone who claims otherwise is being intellectually DISHONEST!

now, expect incoming Sven Warddke nuthuggers to tell you how Dawson was the one who called him out hence Sven Warddke deserved to fight in his chitchen with 2 of his own judges, his referee, bigger purse,168 weight and a brick in his left glove.

Good post. Id be happy to see a rematch at 175 cause that version of Dawson was barely better than Pacquiao's Dela Hoya

He probably was drained, but I still think ward could have had beat Dawson convincgly. The only thing is if the fight was at 175, ward would be more cautious, less eager to bang, and not get any knockouts. Ward is definitely more technical and smarter than Dawson.

particularly when it comes to putting "zip" on punches (works both ways for speed and power), foot movement, and defensive reflexes.

All of these were visible in Ward vs. Dawson, but then again, they usually can be seen in any grinding down one sided victory. I do think he was obviously drained, not enough to diminish the victory from the great one that it is.

God this guy can be a dumbass broken record.

Corrales' weights in fights leading up to Mayweather and including Mayweather. All weight in pounds.

    01- Mayweather, 130
    00- Manfredy, 129.75
    00- Juuko, 130
    00- Gainer, 130
    99- Brown, 130
    99- Garcia, 129.5
    99- Aldama, 134

Dude, his great fights with Casamayor in 2003 and 04 were still at 130 pounds.

    This.

Mostly he just dehydrated then rehydrated. It's not like he was deprived of nutrients or electrolytes.
Even if he also watched his caloric intake, his body wasn't breaking down muscle cells in some desperate attempt to feed itself.

There's probably a small effect on a boxer, but nothing like what the OP is implying. Ward simply outclassed Dawson. He probably surprised him by being so aggressive, especially on the inside, and Dawson had no answer.

Yeah people say 2 pounds is no big deal, then why do certain fighters demand a catch weight or no fight if it doesn't matter, simple logic
