Come on, it's seems like every debate someone has regarding "new school" vs "old school" all the old fighters win, and the "new school" fighters get dissed and underrated.

Makes me sick to my stomach!

    It works both ways.

What gets a tad annoying, however, is when people talk about the "good old days" and act like some of the crap we have to deal with today is something new, and never happened before.

Why do you think this threadstarter? Give some examples. Do you think this because you just assume we overrate old school fighters for nostalgiac purposes, or have you actually done the research on the fighters and the comparisons that have been made and come to this conclusion? This is an old complaint with no substance behind it as far as I'm concerned.

Some people do possibly overrate old school fighters, just as some people overrate modern fighters. But you'd have to have done the research to truly know, you can't just assume because an old school fighter is favored that it's because the one favoring him is biased or nostalgiac.

It goes both ways, there are the old school nostalgiacs and the new school fans who believe modern fighters are superior due to improvements in technology, eating habits, etc.

But when you say "new school" you are generally talking about right now. Because there are so many great fighters, even in recent history, never mind the WHOLE history of the fight game, it's very hard to talk like the new school fighters are the best of all - because they generally aren't.

I think if you check out Classic, where the old school bias is worst, you'll still see guys like Tyson, Jones, Whitaker, fighters that are recently retired, getting their due.

It's nothing to get sick about. It's just fact.

And you get some idiots that think cos you got some whey in a can you can tear up any of those cavemen.

Take it one step at time, taking each comparison with an open mind and compare/contrast resumes and skillsets and you won't go far wrong.

yeh i hate when people talk about old school fighters like theyre gods or something. stop talking all this **** about 'resumes' and records, ofcourse their records were strong against each other....but watch the actual video footage of these guys (if there is any lol) i own a lot of footage of sugar ray robinson,,carmen basilio...gene fulmer.. rocky marciano.. and a whole other bunch of guys that were around in the 40's and 50's (especially the heavyweights)...in general these guys looked much slower and weaker fighting than todays greats and they had much more poor defence....why do u think less fights end by knockout today??? because guys like mayweather have modified their boxing style and ability to be almost impossible to hit,,,,not like these old morons that carry their left hand below their waist......take the most powerful fighter of those days...probably marciano and now compare him to mike tyson or wlad klitschko....these men would look down on him and laugh

I agree, you have no qualms from me, for example, there are people who truly believe that it would be impossible for roy jones to beat archie moore or ezzard charles at lightheavy.

Another thing i always laugh at is harry greb, I love how people always rank him so highly and apparently know so much about the way he fought when zero footage of the man exists :-( :-(

I agree. The real old school guys like 40s and earlier are way overrated IMO. Like someone else mentioned there's no footage of most of these guys to even judge but they automatically get the nod over modern fighters almost every time.

i find this a difficult subject because most of us were not around in them days its hard for us to make comparisons.
i just like to believe that every decade had its great fighters and everyone will have their personal favourites. as for who beats who, for me always difficult decision!!!!

Agree - That's why I dont care much for the past greats. They are done, we are dealing with fighters today. That's I dont care too much about mythical match ups.

What I cant stand is when people say Rocky would beat Wlad. That would ever truly ****ing happen.

Why does it seem that in this thread its Mayweather supporters who are slamming old school boxers?

And why do I get the idea that the OP is a retread poster under his 4th alias?

And why do I get the idea that his next thread will be about how Mayweather is the greatest boxer p4p ever? Or that he would make a fool out of SRR?

I dont think Mayweather is the greatest or would beat SRR. I do think that past fighters are held on such a higher pedistool it's ******ed.

It depends. If were talking about fighters of the 80's (Duran, Hagler,Leonard, etc.)then they were truly bad ass. But I highly favor todays fighter against the fighter of the 60's downward due to better training regimen, better physique and better scouting of the opponents weaknesses.
