It's funny how everyone wants to hate on Roy Jones now that he's washed up

I agree with every word. Jones is not motivated by money, he is addicted to fighting (much like Holyfield). It's tragic.

Yeah, significant one that. I remember the British summarisers for that fight were all saying that Rahman needed to retire after that fight as he just didn't have it any more.

Years later WALDO beat him, and this board was a wank-fest for Klit-ites for the usual 7 days  Let's also not forget that Rahman ran VITLAY into retirement too, yet Ruiz is still considered to be nothing more than a bum that Jones cherry-picked :nut

I'll happily concede that Jones took the easy option at HW in Ruiz considering the other alternatives available to him, but Ruiz is no bum, far from it.

Im sure that Del Valle, Woods, Hall, and Ruiz will all go down as awsome fighters in the history books. As for Pazienza he was tough as nails, but look who he beat going into the Jones fight, Duran. At super middleweight.

Yep. I know long term Slappy fans that were disgusted with Joe for even taking that fight. Of course they were the level-headed, long term fans of the sport as opposed to the fan-boys we generally get on here. The truth is as you said it, Slappy dodged the **** out of the likes of Jones and Hopkins for years purely because he had the age advantage on both of them.

Here's hoping Slappys cocaine abuse gets him in the mood to return at roughly the same age Jones was when he fought Slappy - and a brutal beating gets handed out to the Welsh wanker :happy

Take a look at a couple of other Jones opponents from around that time....Tony Thornton and Sugar Boy Malinga - widely considered as bums because of what Jones did to them but take a look at what they did against Benn and Eubank in comparison. People to this day still accuse Jones of ducking both Benn and Eubank, incidentally :patsch

I am not saying they were great fighters....

They were certainly good fighters, and not nobodies. And given how they fought against other good competition, and were totally dominated by Roy, it has to count for something.

Woods went 1-1-1 against Johnson, who attacked Roy the same way Johnson did, but the difference was Roy was still half alive, and what happened to Woods would have happened to Johnson had he fought that Roy.

A lot of the good fighters Roy beat get written of as Teachers, Cops, Garbage men Etc. When in truth they were world champions and contenders. Just because you are not familiar with a fighter doesn't mean they are a nobody.

I have been fair to Roy I think. I think he is a great fighter. and I give him a chance to beat Hopkins. Hopkins is 45 and no matter what, that fact cannot be ignored. He has to have some effects of age at this point. I think Jones will try and knock him out. Anything can happen in this fight. But Jones might just try and land a good counterpunch in the early rounds.
