Yeah you can say that but as a promoter that's kind of typical. Why risk his guy to someone out of his stable when he has someone in his stable to match him up with?, he just keeps things in his corner safe and entertains the fans at the same time. Let's face it, the fight did turn out to be dramatic and entertaining so that overshadowed that he did with ease even to the very few that knew what he was doing, I knew what he was doing and still ordered it, won't deny that.

Torres is a very hard banger @ 140 and if I remember correctly Mayweather was also rocked by Corley.

Now go watch a Cotto fight 5 times. :rofl

Miguel Cotto is vastly underrated. He's beaten several good contenders as well as future HOFer Shane Mosley. If Cotto had never met Bob Arum, he might still be undefeated. His career has been completely mishandled over the last couple of years.

Cotto was clearly having major issues in making weight at 140lbs also. Does Torres have more pop than Judah or Mosley? I don't think so. Cotto's chin was severely weakened in his last fights at 140

brutally mishandled. Bob Arum fed him to Quintana/Judah/Mosley/Margarito/Clottey/Pacquiao nearly back to back to back. Cotto had to crack eventually, that was an intense lineup. He lost quite a bit of health from that insane lineup. Not to mention, Cotto wasn't exactly fighting soft guys at 140lbs and he was tiring himself out making weight also near the tail end. He destroyed Randal Bailey in a beautiful performance(i mention it only because i loved that performance), as well as a few other guys. Really really GOOD career. Very shy of great.

I dont know why people on this forum hype up cotto the way they do. He has beaten alot of solid comp, been in exciting fights, and got alot of hbo exposure.....

But it was clear he was always missing somthing to take him to the next level. Adding to that to the fact that he has never won a non vacant title and the vunerability he has shown, I tend to think he used to be the most overrated fighter on this board....

His skills were as a very very high level. His vulnerabilities made him exciting. You give Cotto a couple attributes like a cast iron chin and slightly better stamina and he would have toyed with guys like Margarito/Clottey and even the Mosley fight would have been won by a much larger margin. He had done a lot with what he lacked, but make it clear here - it was NOT his skills that was lacking.

I believe his career was mishandled from 2008 on. I have no problems before that. Margarito is obviously a bad matchup for Cotto and should've been avoided at all costs. After Margo lost to Williams, that should've been the perfect excuse to steer clear of him. They should've pushed for a fight with Hoya instead. He could've won that fight and seen his popularity soared. Intstead, Arum saw the Mexican dollar signs with Margo as well as the massive earning potential of Pac.

In 2008, Cotto was put in their with a complete setup in the form of Gomez. This left him unprepared for Margo. Arum wanted Hoya for Pac. So instead of pushing for that fight for Cotto, he made Cotto Margo's sacrificial lamb. Cotto was then matched up with another soft touch before needlessly being matched up with Clottey. After getting roughed up in that fight, he was then forced to drain himself in order to fight Pac. Pac ripped him to shreds and now he's going up to 154 to fight a bigger guy with the movement to possibly totally nullify his offense and make him look silly.

Yep. I remember an interview of his after he moved up to welterweight expressing his relief that he didn't have to make 140 again.

Do you think Arum is doing this to build Foreman's "star-power" or popularity in NY?

Because from what I've seen of Yuri, he's too big and has too much foot movement for Cotto at 54. Bruce Trampler must know this too or at least know that Cotto wont be in for an easy night.
