It's funny how some people here have built up PBF like he's the best fighter ever

He's certianly one of the best fighters I have ever seen. Regardless of what your opinions of him are, you have to recognize the fact that he is one of the most talented fighters to ever grace the ring.

I am NOT one of those saying he isn't a great fighter, nor do I think he will be forgotten in 10 or 20 or 30 years. I think he is 1 of the small elite group of fighters of the last 25 years (Roy Jones Jr, Pernell Whitaker, Julio Cesar Chavez, Evander Holyfield, Bernard Hopkins, Lennox Lewis, Ricardo Lopez), so it is clear I am aware of what a talent he was. However, I do think that his career was very cleverly managed so that he could say precisely what you are saying now: no losses, this many titles, that many prizes. It is my own opinion that he never sought the toughest challenges around (as DLH did, as Morales did), he never chased the biggest fights possible and risked it all (a fight v Tszyu at the time would have fallen into this category due to his high P4P ranking at the time), and that is what makes a truly great fighter. Not reeling off a list of things he's done, but memories of the great fighters he fought and great fights he was in. Corrales and Castillo II were great wins, but I don't think the rest of his resume amounts to a truly great legacy, so I don't think he can be considered a top 30 P4P fighter ever.

PBF is arguably the most skilled pure boxer in the world today. Cotto/PBF may be a 50/50 fight in my opinion, but other than that nobody at 147 or below can beat PBF.

However, I get the impression that some fans who say PBF is the best ever don't know a whole lot about boxing history. In a p4p sense Floyd is not the best ever by a long haul.

He is probably not even the best in any one division, except for possibley 130. In every division where PBF fought there are fighters who would have beat him.

At 130 I'd give Arguello the nod unless it was a 12 round fight. Over 12 PBF might manage a SD or close UD. Over 15 rounds I'd pick Arguello either because he KO's Floyd, or scores a couple knockdows allowing him to pull ahead on the cards. I'm not saying PBF would have trouble with 15 round fights. I don't think he would. However, El Flaco Explosivo generally owned those last 3 rounds, and he was one of the best ring generals who ever graced a ring. In this case we're giving him an extra 3 round to figure out how to crack floyd's chin.

At 135 Duran introduces little Floyd to the rougher side of boxing with elobows, knees and headbutts, and shows PBF that he can do anything Floyd can do, only better.

At 140 Pryor would be his usual relentless self, and score a late TKO or clear UD

At 147 Hearns, Lenoard, and Robinson would be absolute nightmares for Floyd. All 3 are just to big, to strong, to fast, and to damn good for Floyd to contend with.

Haven't read the last four and a half pages. Have we decided if Floyd is the best fighter ever or not?

No need to decide, the best fighters ever take risk, Floyd fell short when it came to that.

You can't argue with that. RJJ is the best of this era coz he convincingly beat Toney and Hopkins. Mayweather never took risks like that. Debate over.

Yes Roy isn't in PBF's era. Guys like Roy, Hopkins, Toney and Calzaghe are in the same era.

PBF never had two ATGs like Hopkins and Toney in his same weight class either. He could fight only who was there.

That doesn't make any sense at all. Calzaghe won his 1st world title in 1997, PBF in 1998. RJJ's peak was 1996-2003, Mayweather was active throughout that period. Hopkins only became undisputed middleweight champion in 2001 and didn't lose title til 2004. All 4 are still active, whereas Mayweather has retired. OK, they didn't all start their careers in the same year and retire in the same year, but they are part of the same era.
