I made a thread in the general and ppl were claiming that macklin was a better fighter then i gave him credit for, i rewatched the sturm fight and i scored it the same way as last time 115-112 in favour of sturm.
The first 4 rounds were all clear rounds in favour of macklin but after that there were too many close rounds and imo i favoured sturm, he produced the better quality the last 4 rounds were all sturm IMHO, macklin was producing the workrate, but the accuracy and precision was coming from sturm.
Sturm stood in front of macklin, i think the martinez fight is a bit of a mismatch i think martinez will do macklin in a couple of round and it wont go past the 6th. i have no bias against any fighter, i call things how i see it. I think sturms a protected paper champion and the fact macklin made it as close as he did says more about sturms level then anything else.

Its a simple as this in my opinion.

Whichever way you scored the fight, it was stupid to say it was a robbery. If Macklin would have won, it would have been stupid to call it a robbery then too.

Very close fight, which either could well have been given the nod for and there could be little complaints.

I personally had Sturm ahead at the end by a round or 2 IIRC however if Macklin had have been given the verdict i'd have had little complaints

Agreed, wasn't that bad really, scoring it for Sturm was acceptable. Don't remember people crying when Gevor lost a very similar fight either which is frustrating, not that 2 wrongs make a right or anything, but people only seem arsed about things when its fighters they care about.

Sturm is not very good as I've always maintained, the fight did little to suggest Macklin is this top operator that should be in the ring with Martinez, more a confirmation Sturm is poor. Stands infront of his opponents with no footwork relying on a guard, a jab, economic/accurate output and gets away with it due to knowing he's at home and he'll get the benefit of the doubt.

recently posted my scorecard on here I had Sturm by a round, he really turned it on in the mid and late rounds.

In that fight I also scored an even round, which is something I very, very rarely do!

Macklin completely outworked him. He threw over twice as many punches as Sturm and landed nearly twice as many. From memory it was 1100 punches thrown or something similar, unbelievable workrate.

Sturm came on strong in the later rounds with some quality eye-catching punches but he was already well behind on my card. I doubt he would have got the decision anywhere other than Germany.

Can't remember exactly what way I scored it but remember sayin to my mate that sturm needed a ko going into the 11th. Wasn't that suprised with the scorecards though considering where it was on. Don't think either boxer will beat martinez though imo.

I had Macklin by a round or 2, really couldn'ty score it for Sturm. At worst it was a draw.

Macklin completely out worked him for the first 8 rounds

i'm quite puzzled why macklins fighting martinez on the basis that he was unfairly judged in the sturm fight thats the reason why this fights getting made, it wasn't even robbery. I think there are other worthy challenges out there for martinez

Money. The Macklin fight was shown in the US and while it didn't turn him into a household name, the American perception was that he was "robbed". Combine that with him being of Irish descent, placing the fight in the MSG Theatre - not MSG itself as is being reported by some - and him being a very winnable fight for Martinez? Makes sense, especially when the big money fights in or around his weight class aren't available for Martinez.
