andy lee is irish and the americans know a bit about pirog both those fighters are by far more superior and provide a more legitimate test

Lee poses no threat to Martinez - he's hyped up but isn't that great. DiBella was also trying to line up other fights for Lee that would be enough to sell him as a challenger - Quillin for example - which fell through. He then tried to get him a shot at Sturm, which fell through.

Pirog isn't really that well known Stateside. He stopped Danny Jacobs and after that HBO didn't really have much of an interest in him. If they had done and Pirog had continued fighting Stateside then DiBella would have jumped at that fight most likely.

The problem isn't that there are no challengers more worthy than Macklin - it's that they're either tied up to another promoter, or HBO isn't interested. They vetoed Zbik as an opponent, yet approved him for Chavecito. Martinez doesn't shift enough tickets for DiBella to have went through with Martinez/Zbik without TV, leaving the only other option of doing the fight in Germany - which wasn't considered viable by DiBella. If he wasn't willing to go on without TV then, why would he now?

Yes, it wasn't a robbery, it was close and Sturm won imo

Watched it on the night and had it really close (point either way can't remember). Scored it a few weeks later and had it 8-4 Macklin. Clearly outworks Sturm in so many rounds and he lands enough to the body and round the guard (perhaps behind the ear but ah well) to make the cleaner, more eye-catching work from Sturm moot imo.

Pretty sure when I scored it I had Macklin by 4 points, could've have been scored slightly closer, no way did Sturm win that fight (in my opinion)

I thought Macklin won but as robberies go this wasn't the big travesty that some thought it was. Matthysse vs Alexander later that night was much worse.

Macklin sneaked it but in no way was it a robbery.

    I thought he won it.

I like terms initiative shown by martinez and vitali in giving the shot to a guy who they considered to have won the fight.

I had it 115-114 Macklin. Certainly no robbery though.

And Bruno retired about 15 years ago,
Calzaghe retired a couple of years ago
    Hatton is retired etc etc...

So I expect never to see any articles with these names!

I thought it was obvious Sturm won with how he ended the last round.

Interesting point of view, unfortunately fights aren't scored exclusively on the final half round.
