I can't believe people can't see this. If Canelo loses the fight doesn't happen.

When Floyd comes back he'll fight Canelo for the 160 belt to add another weight class (130-160) making it six. It's also the biggest money fight out there for him. Book it, when Floyd returns he'll fight Canelo again then retire 50-0 (if he wins). He might come back for one last fight against Pacquiao if Pac keeps winning.

Floyd Makes 100m from this fight and Canelo 50m. You're crazy if you think they leave that kind of money on the table.

Yes I can certainly see where you're coming from but at 160 even for Floyd the weight disparity would be too much considering how much Canelo balloons up on fight night,it's one thing facing a young green Canelo at 152 but facing a Canelo at 175-180lbs would be too much and would have his detractors saying if you can fight at 160 then why haven't you fought GGG?

Well I see what you're saying about the weight disparity, but the longer Floyd stays retired, the harder it will be for Floyd to make welterweight comfortably. If Floyd were to come back, I'm guessing it would be at 154, since he's not training as much as he used to, he's naturally going to gain a few lbs. I think at this point, seeing how Canelo is barely still able to make 154, he'd probably prefer to fight Canelo at 154 for the WBO title. (in 2017) But if he waits another year, until 2018 lets say, by then Canelo will probably go up and fight Golovkin and if he beats Golovkin, then Floyd would have a real incentive to fight Canelo for possibly the unified MW title which would be a huge event if it were to happen.

One thing we know is that the older you get, the harder it is to cut weight. A 41 year old Mayweather may be more effective at 160 then he would be at 154. We know that Canelo wants to fight Mayweather again, and if Mayweather offered to fight Canelo at 154 in May 2017 I think Canelo would jump at that possibility. If that doesn't happen, Canelo is probably going to fight Golovkin at 160, and then Mayweather - Canelo could happen in 2018, but that's pushing it as far as Floyd coming back. That would be nearly 3 years away from the sport and I think many people would favor Canelo especially if he were able to beat Golovkin. If Canelo Floyd happened next year at 154 though, I think it'd be a toss up, especailly when you consider that Canelo injured his hand and there are questions about how hard it is for him to make 154. From Floyd's perspective, he may have a better chance fighting Canelo at 154 before he fights Golovkin. But if Canelo beats Golovkin at MW first, then it will only make Floyd Canelo that much bigger. I think that Canelo has given Floyd every opportunity to come back and fight him before he moves up to 160. Now that Canelo apparantly won't be fighting in December, there is an opportunity for Floyd to fight Canelo in May 2017 if he wanted to. Having it at 154 would benefit Floyd at this point, which is ironic because that's the weight Floyd wouldn't fight him at in 2013. But if he thinks Canelo could beat Golovkin, maybe Floyd would rather wait until 2018 and winning a title in another weight class. But you really gotta wonder what Floyd would have left by then.

yes canelo floyd makes a lot of money. i disagree about the 160 thing as it currently stands. the fight itself would be the attraction right now and not the weight class. consider that, at mw, canelo fought a ww/jmw to get the wbc/linear title, then fought a jww/ww with a china chin in his only defense, then ceded thew wbc to a real mw and now were talking about fighting another ww/jmw at mw?

canelo's next fight at mw needs to be against golovkin plain and simple. his linear title means little and his ring magazine designation means less. so what belt does canelo have right now he can offer floyd at mw?

    That's a real dumb statement.

Canelo was dead@152 when he fought Floyd. He has gotten even bigger since (look at the size of his back in the Smith fight), Floyd would not fight at 160.

Floyd also made in excess of 300mm for the Pac fight, money shouldn't be an issue. Unless Canelo/GBP promotions gives him like 90% of the PPV revenue.

Well that's just it, I don't think Floyd would want to fight Canelo at MW unless if it were for all the titles, meaning Canelo would have to beat Golovkin first for it to be worth it for Floyd to fight Canelo at MW. At the moment, all Canelo has to offer Floyd is his biggest possible payday and the WBO 154-lb belt.

If Floyd vs Canelo happened next year at 154-lb though, it would still be huge, even if it were just for the WBO belt. It might even be bigger than Canelo vs Golovkin. (certainly bigger than Golovkin Jacobs or Golovkin vs any other MW)

I agree Canelo's next fight at MW should be against Golovkin, but this is about where Canelo vs Floyd would be if it were to happen. I agree with you that from Floyd's perspective, it makes no sense to fight Canelo at MW before Canelo vs Golovkin. But now that Canelo is once again a 154-lb title holder, I don't think there's any doubt that Canelo vs Floyd at 154 next year would be the biggest fight possible in boxing if it were to happen.

Ok so based on that, you agree that the most likely scenario would be Floyd vs Canelo at 154, not at 160. The only way I could see Floyd fighting at MW, would be if Canelo beats Golovkin, and even then Floyd may still insist on a catchweight at MW.

If you think Floyd wouldn't fight at 160, then what are the chances of this fight happening, and when would it have to happen most likely? (before Canelo goes up to 160 to fight Golovkin, or after?)

I think Floyd/Canelo 2 would be best for Cinco de Mayo 2017, but I don't think it's going to happen. Although I heard a rumor Floyd started training more seriously recently.

Yes, I think it would make the most sense for it to be Cinco de Mayo 2017 at 154 for Canelo's WBO title. (before Canelo goes up to 160 to fight Golovkin)

This would benefit Floyd because Canelo may have some difficulty making at 154 at this point. (not as much difficulty as he had making 152 in 2013, but still that's much fairer to Floyd than having to fight Canelo at MW)

I agree with you that that's the most logical weight and time for them to fight. And I tend to agree with you that I don't think it's going to happen, because I don't know how motivated Floyd is to return. I think Floyd is considering it, but if it doesn't happen, I would say there's an outside chance that Floyd waits until after Canelo moves up to 160 and fights Golovkin, and if Canelo wins possibly Floyd could challenge Canelo in 2018 at MW, possibly at a catchweight. (that would seem to be a longshot though)

That scenario seems less likely than the fight happening at 154 on Cinco de Mayo 2017. I do think that one of the reasons why Canelo has stayed at 154 is for the possibility to rematch Floyd there. And he knows if he moved up to fight Golvokin at the full 160, at that point he'd surely be unable to return to 154.

What 160 belt are you talking about? Alvarez has no belt anymore.

Interesting to ponder on this fight.
Maybe Floyd will agree to a catch weigh of say 155.5:ciao:

I highly doubt Floyd would face Alvarez at MW if there's no chance to becoming the MW world champ. Canelo has no belts at MW. Doubtful they'll tango in a 10 round affair.
