It's official, Cotto is ducking Canelo

    Canelo is once again without an opponent for december 8th, which would be his next fight after Josesito Lopez . For a second time, the boricua has declined an offer to fight Canelo, the biggest money fight available for him (aside from a Pacquiao or Floyd rematch) and a fight everybody wanted to see.

    Cotto's last excuse to avoid Canelo was ¨I'm on vacation chico, i'm not gonna fight until december¨, but now that a date for december was offered to him, he walked away from negotiations, in order to fight for peanuts against Austin Trout instead.

    Worst of all is, if Cotto defeats Trout (like he's supposed to do) and gets the title from Trout, a future fight with Canelo will be even more difficult to make, due to Sulaiman's new ¨NO UNIFICATIONS¨ policy bs. Which was the reason a Canelo-Trout match didn't materialize for this sept. 15.

    It's obvious why Cotto is doing this, a victory over Trout wont do much for Cotto's pockets but it'll rise Cotto's stock (a little) so he can have more leverage to negotiate and cash out with a Pac or Mayweather rematch, while at the same time, it'll give Cotto a feasible excuse to keep ducking the danger that is Canelo indefinetly.

    Afraid of getting a new mexican papi and ruining his retirement plan in the process, Cotto wants nothing to do with a young hungry lion like Canelo :-(

    You're trying too hard bruh, I'm pretty sure if/when Cotto and and Canelo win their respective bouts that GBP will try to make the Cotto/Canelo fight in May 2013.

    Because he's that confident in his abilities. Maybe he was trying to secure a Cotto fight, to no avail of course.


    Yeah? so who do you think will give up his belt in order to fight the other guy?

    because if Cotto gets Trout's title Sulaiman wont allow him to fight Canelo

    Sorry, but the fight wont happen in the foreseeable future

    :? I cant believe the lack of support Cotto gets on ESB. Hes one of a few true warriors left in boxing who gives it his all and never quits.

    So Cotto is ducking Canelo, a guy that hasn't face a true JMW yet, a guy that is fighting guys that are not on his division and not even rank, he could chose to fight the winner of Lara-Vanes or move up to 160 and fight GGG, Quillin, Geale, Martinez, Chavez, etc... he doesn't have an opponent because he is not looking in the right direction, the guy should give up the belt or start fighting guys from his own div.

    lol, Cotto was offered the Sept 15 date AGES ago, before even Paul Williams was mentioned.

    He declined because, apparently, he needed a lot of rest after being schooled by Mayweather's pillow fists. Imagine what a big match would have been, Puerto Rico vs Mexico in Mexico's independence day. But Cotto wanted nothing to do with Canelo back then and his mind hasn't changed, it seems.
