    I had been hearing about his defection for a while but yesterday while watching the lara fight i saw a familiar face on the ring. this kid is 23 years old and is probably going to be fighting in the 135 or 140 division most likely the 140, he is one of cuba's most promising stars, he was first noticed on an international level when he won gold at the world amateur championships at the age of 19 but he had been suspended for about 8 months because he was caught chatting with gamboa here is his resume

    Olympic Games 2008- bronze
    World Amateur Championships 2005 - gold
    Central American and Caribbean Games-gold
    Pan American Games 2007 - Gold
    World Cup 2005- silver

    It is too bad all these guys end up being managed by Luis de Cubas, who is a god awful manager/promoter.

    i know man thats terrible, at least gamboa is with top rank and lara with golden boy but all the other ones get stuck with decubas and probably this one will too

    We have one of the best small hall facilities coming online in Miami Beach next year, I mean it blows The Joint at the Hard Rock away, but we probably won't have any fights there because guys like de Cubas cannot get their act together.

    Im not De Cubas fan but casamayor did pretty good with him
    it depends also how dedicated and disciplined they get after going pro
    some of them-like garbey-go crazy having fun and this is a sport where talent only doesnt get u anywhere(ask Bojado)

    Kid Cubano, Casamayor did well, but how quickly did Team Freedom fold? Luis has worked on something like three promotions and until he got his deal with the Miccosukee's they were constantly coming up short.

    Man, give me someone who knows about PR and demography, a few gym contacts and a history of not dicking over venues and I am sure you could sell out the James L Knight center with these guys.

    I will never foget being at Freitas vs Barrios and seeing 8,000 people in the old Miami Arena and realizing that if the guys down here just had their act together, and maybe some tie-ins with Univision or Telemundo, that we could get tons of fighters from Cuba, Brazil, Argentina, Colombia, etc and sell out arenas.

    And as much of a boxing fan as I am, I don't want to drive to the Miccosukee casino to watch fights.
