If you can shatter and destroy a prime and young prospect who had been knocking out people (journeymen mostly), what does that speak of you? Calz must be the sh*t..
Whilst Calzaghe started the descent, it really all fell apart when his shoulder fell apart. When you go from being the poster boy of Showtime to having to represent yourself to get fights in yer own backyard...well...shits ****ed up.
yep he's definately done, i actually thought he'd lost, and yep joe's definately responsible for finishing him. it'll take a bad beating to convince him to turn it in tho.
My how things change. I remember he was being billed as a Super Middleweight Mike Tyson. He had huge muscles etc. Just goes to show you that all those pretty looking muscles don't mean **** in a Boxing ring.
I am glad that there is little revisionist history in this respect. I dislike Calzaghe pretty strongly, but it must be said that it was a sensational performance, and yes, he did ruin Lacy. Obviously it is easy to say that he was never any good in the 1st place.... but a sustained 12 round beating can ruin any fighter - his cornerman should have pulled him after about 8 rounds and not let him take any more. The local commission (if thats how it works in America) should take away his licence.... because he is clearly delusional - he was calling out Calzaghe prior to his loss to Taylor.
I don't think Lacy was very good in the 1st place actually but alas, different convo for another time Calzaghe certainly did rip him apart...that coupled with having his shoulder completely ****ed pretty much did Jeff in. Sad to see.
Theres no way on this earth a pre Calzaghe Lacy would be struggling that badly with that calibre of opposition. JC and the shoulder injury ruined him. Lacy needs to give it up.
Does anyone remember Lacy after his FNF showcase before the taylor fight? He was openly talking about retirement and how the promoters of boxing were holding him down. I kind of wish he would've retired then to be honest.
I don't think Lacy was ALL THAT GOOD myself..... but certainly far better than the level of performance we have seen since then. If DLH and Schaefer don't feel you are upto it anymore (and therefore can't make any $$$) then it must be true! He needs to give it up.... he should have made a fair wedge throughout his career, no point being beaten up for the sake of it.
Yeah. It's clear that his mind isn't in the sport anymore and that his shoulder injury did him in. He should retire.
