The trouble is that if we think Saturdays stoppage was a problem then we going end up thinking that there are a lot of problems. Its self feeding.
just a wee thought but maybe the ref was shitting himself with all the carry on a ringside he decided that the first opportunity he got was to stop the fight and prevent a riot. make no mistake, if Fury lost Event City would have resembled Gotham City!!
Fury would have finished it before the end of the round is the way I saw it. I think in America or for a world title Fury would have been allowed to knock the guy over again.
Was talking about this with my lecturer today. He was pissed off with it. Said it put him off Boxing. :-( If one of our ref's were doing the Alvarado-Prescott bout, they probably would have stopped it when Alva was taking a beating. Disgusting refs!
. Oh god. After Kirkland got knocked down, they probably would have called it off and then said.. "No mate, we all saw what happened in the Ishida fight. It probably would have happened again" :nut
That fight was almost stopped in the first. The ref told Kirkland along the ropes that he was going to stop it if he didn't start fighting back. The refs decision was also helped by some of the worst finishing I've ever seen from a world class fighter.
Good refereeing that's what i'd like to see more ref's do, it seems to have stopped along the years for whatever reason but i like to see ref's do that.
There was a point when Kirkland was on the ropes and didn't answer probably over a dozen decent shots....99% of refs would have dived in there. For every one amazing Kirkland comeback there are 50 badly hurt fighters.
