He lost to RJJ at the mans peak. A fighter who was a phenomenon. He has since gone on to beat Johnson, Gonzalez and Hoye and is a current world champion who is next taking on Tarver.

And yet you start a thread about him as if he is some hyped up fraud.atsch What "high regard" are you talking about? When do you see "Woods is a beast" or "Woods is incredible" as thread titles on ANY boxing site?

When have you seen the boxing press lavish praise on Woods? When has his win over Johnson and his wins over Gonzalez been made out to mean he is a huge talent who should be feared by all?

So what the **** are you babbling on about?

He got whipped by an ATG who was at his peak and who was a stunning talent.
He has gone on to be a world champ and act the total professional and is a recognised champ now who wants to fight the best in the division.
The division is not much different than it was 6 years ago except that RJJ is not here now at his best.

Dawson and others are quality fighters but no; not one of them is an RJJ....big surprise there eh?:roll:

 

Exactly, and Gonzales is a hell of a lot better than he's given credit for.

Woods is no Jones Jr that much is obvious but he's an honest guy and he always comes to fight. He's down to earth too and a genuinely nice person, which are 2 qualities that made Hatton an instant ATG in most Brits eyes. Difference is Woods has bollocks, Hatton doesn't.

 

No shame in losing to RJJ in a fight that took place back in 02, when Roy was still good, prime or very close to it.

 

On the record I hope Woods utterly destroys Tarver badly. He is just annoying to me.

 

He has a great shot at it IMO.

Tarvers lack of a consistent workrate will be his downfall in this fight(barring he doesnt KO Woods early).

 

He's a different fighter from the RJJ fight. He's has very good punch output and his stamina is pristine

 

Tarver is shot and Woods will dominate him. He has everything he needs to do the job: stamina, workrate, solid B level skills/abilities, mediocre power (but pretty good pop), and a solid enough chin. I wouldn't be surprised if Tarver gets stopped, he looked like complete **** in his last few performances.

 

If he's not the equal of a prime RJJ, so what?
Can't a division and its fighters be just as entertaining even if the quality is not quite the same?

Like Richie Woodhall before him, Clinton Woods is a nice guy and a good hard-working solid pro.
I'm happy for his success and hope that continues against Tarver.

 

He is a vastly improved fighter since he fought Roy. Not to say he would ever come close to beating that version of Roy, but he should beat Tarver.

 

For some reasons, I feel that Jones was on roid in that fight.

 

This thread is pointless, you have made your mind up and will not accept anyone's point of view.

Tarver is famous for beating beating an out of form RJJ 2 fights to 1 and winning and losing a fight to Johnson. He also got owned badly by Hopkins winning only 2 rounds on the scorecards.

On the flip side, Woods has not beaten too higher level of opponent but to lose to RJJ before he started to slide is no shame. Since then he has come back and won the title so you have to respect him for this.

Personally I think this will be an interesting fight. I've always thought that Tarver was overrated but on the flip side I've never been too impressed with Woods' workrate. I therefore expect a close fight and do not know who will win.
