Lewis knew better than to fight Vitali again. Why else would you walk away from millions and ignore the fans plea if you are not a little affraid?

Fans were robbed of what could have been a great rematch. Hell it's been 7 years and we are still talking about the original fight. Vitali got a tough break. But that aside, he did'nt come to lose and I think Lewis seen how hungry this man was.

because he had already made over 100 million

and probably had done what most boxers dont, made it grow instead of subtract

money didnt drive lewis who had been making million dollar purses since 1990

One could say much the same about the Foreman - Ali fight. Foreman had a bunch of extenuating circumstances that he could say contributed to his loss. In fact he did, and at one point even implied he was poisoned. But he was cut during training camp and the fight was postponed by about 6 weeks, and then of course there's the issue of the ropes being extremely loose..so everyone has excusses when they loose.

But the facts are Ali took more punishment than any fighter I ever seen take before or since that fight, and he ultimately took enough punishment that Foreman tired himself out and lost. With Vitali, obviously given the number of cuts on Vitali's face, Lewis was able to throw punches hard enough, or land in such as manner, as to cut Vitali's face into a pulp. One cut may have been a fluke but certainly not all of them.

But ultimately that's what winners do, is find away to win and both Ali and Lewis managed to do so in their defining fights. And I'm pretty sure a rematch between Ali and Foreman would have made both millions upon millions too.

People say the 38 yr old Lewis was to old for a rematch?

Vitali is 39...what if briggs was beating vitali than got stopped by cuts in the 9th or some ****. and instead of rematching briggs Vitali tried to sue Sam Peter into a rematch then when Vitalis belt makes Briggs the mandatory Vitali retires. what would people think of vitali then? Lewis did basically that by trying to sue tyson into a rematch then retired when the Vitali fight was being demanded by the wbc.

It was a tough fight for Lewis. According to Doug Fischer at THE RING blog "vs. Lewis, who was indeed a bit scrambled at the time of the stoppage -- I remember witnessing him repeatedly stumble on his way from the ring to the dressing room after the slugfest, which took place at Staples Center"

I already posted on a thread about this, look it up.
The IBF, HBO and Lewis didn't want this fight, the only people that wanted it was Byrds camp. Byrd went to court, Lewis was stripped.

Lewis was the only one I've seen fight him and give him a ton of problems. It was a fight that should of happen a second time. I do believe a younger more fit Lewis would of beat Vitali.

Haven't I owned you on this before?
Lewis tried to sue Tyson/King May 2003, BEFORE facing Vitali. Vitali was made the mandatory AFTER he fought Lewis.

Any of that sinking into that thick skull yet? I'm pretty sure you've repeated this **** before.

What if Lewis had quit on his stool in the first Holyfield fight whilst way ahead on the cards, claiming a sore arm? What if he never rematched Holyfield after that, then went on and lost with his face caved in against an ATG who then retired but then won a version of the belt a year or so later by beating a 40 year old, and then defending against bums? I wonder if he'd be proclaimed as being as great as VITLAY is for doing exactly that :huh

NOBODY wanted to see Lewis fight Byrd, NOBODY. Even as a Lewis fan I remember thinking "what's the ****ing point?" at the time. Lewis was the legitimate undisputed champion of the world because he beat Holyfield, the belts are irrelevent. Funnily enough the Klits use the same argument when talking about WALDO being undisputed.....

STFU, ya Newbie Arab impersonating Al Johson Whino!!!

If Lewis wanted the fight he would have been prepared this time around and Vitali might be a corpse right now. The fight didn't happen so get over it ya crying Babe Ruth smellin ****. :good

What makes me laugh is the claims "Lewis never fought a slick boxer", "Lewis ducked Byrd" seriously I've debated this **** before.
Like you said nobody wanted it, the IBF must have cringed when Byrd went to court.

You missed out the "Lewis was scared of southpaws" bull**** too

He also ducked Sanders you know, by fighting the guy that beat him :huh:nut That comes from the same school of logic that says that a beaten challenger deserves an immediate rematch if he's ahead on the cards when he gets ****ed up, by the way :nut

There was no rematch clause, and yes if Lewis lost he would have wanted a rematch and would have got one because he was the champion :patsch

Why do people find this part so difficult to understand? VITLAY was the champion when he quit against Byrd yet no rematch, why is it his fans only ever cry about the Lewis fight? Did Chris Byrd really **** VITLAY up more than Lewis did :huh
