It's strange to see how many fellers here dislike Kelly Pavlik...

I just cannot see me why.

He's a nice guy, he fights the best and gives it all he has!

What's wrong with you fellers? He's not bad for a guy who's just turned 26, is he, now?

He's definitely good, but hasn't proved himself great yet and he's already got so many rabid nutthuggers that it puts people off who think just because he's the man at 160 he can kill anyone up to 175 without breaking a sweat. Its crazy especially considering he's a champ but its not as if he's hammered some hall of famers or anything.

He's got an exciting fighting style. He goes for the stoppage win. He doesn't turn his back on a fight. Nothing wrong with liking that kind of a young fighter, is there?

He's got plenty of time to fight top fighters. He's only 26! Who says he's gonna blow everyone at 175 lbs down outta the water?

I really like Pavlik but I don't se him as p4p material. He fight the best and has a nice personality, hell I like him. But I don't think he is a rebirth of Jesus Christ, but a very hard and talentet MW.

Yeah, it's basically because he's being hugged in the extreme, it causes a backlash. When posters seriously insists that he could beat Hagler/Monzon/Robinson etc., it raises the hackles of other posters, and I understand that.

But he is everything YOU say he is, and i'm looking forward to his next fight, and then every one until he retires. He's a good boxer with a warrior's heart. I doubt we'll here anything about Kelly Pavlik ducking anyone in his remaining years, and that's what this sport needs, more than anything.

Two like him in every division and boxing would be back in the mainstream.

That's kind of stupid, isn't it? Hating on a feller because some young'uns get all excited about him when he does well?

Well put like that, yes it is. But there are many that take the community quite seriously (i'm one of them, although I've been mostly unaffected by the Pavlik nuthuggery for reasons i've covered) and ESB does more to form boxing opinions than anything else that's out there, so I understand it.

Think about it - in your own life, have you come across a boxer who, in the media, was lauded and worhipped and triumphed before having really done anything? And didn't you want to see that fighter put on his ass, just to shut them up?

    Same thing here.

Where are you from? In the UK we had Ricky Hatton. Now the Sky Sports network treated this kid like he was the second coming of Jesus Christ when he was still fighting at British/European level. I'm Scottish, Ricky is English (think Texan v Calafornian if you're from the states, maybe) so I'm not an automatic supporter anyway, but we are both British. By the time he stepped up to fight Kostya, there was a part of me wanting to see him beaten, just because the media blew him so hard. It just made me sick of his face.

He won me round, but I have to admit to thrilling just a touch when Floyd drilled him into the ring post...your enviroment shapes your opinions is the point.

Thing is, Kelly Pavlik's a young, exciting guy. It's just fine for people to get excited about him, right? If people didn't get all excited about a feller like Pavlik, why would they be in the business of being boxing fans anyways? Why not look to see good fights from this young feller in future instead of wanting to see him get beat up? If he were as cocky or motivated by money or if he ducked and disrespected other fighters like Ricky Hatton, than, yeah! But he ain't, is he? He's just your average good American kid with a big heart. Is he not good for boxing?

It is sad but there'll always be haters..I'm a big JC fan, he's a hell of a nice guy too but yet you've got lots of haters out there. Let them hate I say! I just go to his fights and enjoy them.

I like Pavlik but there's no need to put down the Hitman Hatton. That kind of looks like Starling in your avatar. Who is it?

I like Pavlik a lot, he is exciting and his fights are the kind that can draw more people into watching boxing, i know i would find it easier to tell a non boxing fan friend to watch a pavlik fight than a lot of others

I'm not putting The Hitman down. I know a few of the Brits do, though. I'm just saying I cannot see any reason to dislike a feller like Pavlik.

Man in my avatar is Pryor. Hawk's my all time favourite.

Doing the exact same **** with Amir Khan these days. The guy hasn't proved anything yet, but the way the boys at ITV talk you would think he was an ATG already. I hope he succeeds in the sport, but all the ****-talking puts knowledgeable fans off; I will tell you how bad it has got: I had a dream last night that Michael Gomez was beating him along the ropes and the Ref had to stop the fight (I **** you not).

As far as Pavlik goes, I enjoy watching him fight, and his level of competition in his last five or six fights has been very good. He's only 26; lots of time left for the really big fights. Not a ATG yet, but who knows what he will achieve...
