Fighter A throws 50 punches, and lands 11

Fighter B throws 35 punches, and lands 11

Assuming they have an equal jab/power-punch %

Who do you score the round for, and why?

Fighter A, the aggressor because in addition to landing equal punches, he managed to keep his opponent busy even when not landing

Or fighter B, the counter-puncher, because they were throwing their punches more efficiently, with fewer wasted shots, while waiting for openings.

Or any other reasons you may give

    So?

It's an interesting one. Usually I'll lean towards the agressor in this situation. But 'quality of shots' has to come into play. Punch stats mean very little to me. I usually go for the guy with the more impressive work

Score for who you think landed the more damaging shots?

Depends on how each of them look and control the fight.

If the aggressor is careless in the process of getting his shots in, and the counterpuncher remains relatively calm and controls the pace on his side of things.....then I'd give it to the counterpuncher.

But if the counterpuncher gets his shots in whilst on the run or as a means of survival, then to me it would seem the aggressor is enjoying his moments more.

Or easier still, and more importantly, just keep an eye on which landed shots appear to do more damage. Those are more valuable than pitter patter ones. Clean and effective work >>>>>>> numbers (in some circumstances).

the counterpuncher stays in his comfort zone, his shots are well placed and timed. he has the luxury to wait and throw punches in his comfort zone. the aggressor as you say, still manages to land as much shots even while dipping in dangerous waters? i'd tend to give that guy the round.

Without additional info, B, definitely, and the scoring system backs that up.

He scores higher in defence and effective aggression (simply throwing doesn't count as effective).

Just the numbers don't tell the full story though.

But I would expect most people to go with A, which I very much disagree with. I don't like fights being won on workrate rather than skill.

If A landed the harder cleaner shots he wins the round

just because he was less accurate doesnt matter if he did the damage

or if B did more damage despite being out worked he would win

Assuming the punches are equal power, fighter B wins because he has a better defence.

But if A is walking B down he might get the nod, whereas if it was a chess match fight with both standing their ground B gets it.

All things being even, I score for the aggressor. Its a fight and he is making the fight. The counterpuncher got his punching opportunities because his opponent was willing to create a fight. Now if fighter B kept moving back waiting for counter opportunities, what happens if fighter A does the same? We end up with a very boring fight or nothing at all.

The aggressor takes more risks and initiates the action.
