It's time Andre Ward was stopped being referred to as a fighter

You are an idiot, if you don't like who he's fighting next, then don't watch.

 

He's been inactive, how can he avoid fighters if he hasn't fought anyone at all?

Btw, he has only fought 5 times in Oakland.

 

"Avoided" means he doesn't WANT to fight them, his problem has been getting in the ring against anyone at all.

When he's fought consistently, it's been against top fighters. Most american fighters don't fight overseas anyway. This bum is a tune up fight, obviously doesn't add anything to his resume. You don't go into a huge fight against the best fighters in your division when you haven't fought in almost 2 years.

 

He will have been inactive for 1 year and 7 months when he fights in June so having a warm up is understandable.

But his career has stagnated for so long now and now he is 31 he may only have a few years left in his prime. He signed with Roc Nation in Jan and it will be 5 months to just arrange a warm up. If the intention was to have a warm up they should have already had it by now, his career is still progressing at a painfully slow pace.

He will likely only fight once more this year and I just hope he makes that fight a meaningful one otherwise that's another year wasted. Ward needs to make up for lost time and fight more regularly he can't afford to take almost half a year just to arrange a fight.

 

It is the Mayweather syndrome. Another American boxer is treating his career as a business not a sport. Not that im saying it is an American problem, it just seems to be where this problem was born.

A true sporting hero, a true athlete wants to pit his wits against the best and try prove he is the best. I love boxing if i were a pro id want to fight as much as i could against the best that i could.

A business does the opposite. Does the minimum amount of work to get the highest rewards. Picks and chooses their way through life trying to face as little real competition as possible.

I have no problem with the latter in life, it makes sense but it is somthing that shouldnt happen in sport and in most sports it doesnt. I cant blame these people for it but its a damn shame and shows really unsporting like behaviour.

 

Triple G is 32 and hasn't been tested yet, but we know he'll dominate everyone else for at least the next 5 years.

Froch was 32 when he fought Ward in the Super 6, and has still been great ever since.

Ward's 31, not 36.
