It's weird how its become a foregone conclusion that Abraham would have won by KO

I think its weird how its become a foregone conclusion that Abraham would not have been able to get the KO

During the fight, the threat of the KO was constantly there. In the round 10, the round just before the DQ, Abraham knocked Dirrell down and had him hurt.

I think the possibility of a late round KO was definately there. Especially that Abraham has had late round KO's in the past.

This is why its become a forgone conclusion. He was hurt by a flashknockdown that might have occured because he tripped over Abrahams foot.

In reality he got up, shown no signs of being hurt by way of dodging a bunch of Abrahams punches immediately after the fact, then proceeding to win the first minute of the 11th.

Dirrell did show signs of being hurt despite doding some punches after he was knocked down. You can still dodge some punches if you are hurt. Abraham knocking Dirrell down hard in the 10th is a sign that he was starting to catch up to him. Abraham won that 10th round big, even without the knockdown. As for the first minute of the 11th round as I recall both fighters didn't do much so even if Dirrell was winning it that's no surprise. Rounds last 3 minutes, not 1, and if you look at Abraham's style in previous fights he often slightly gives away the first portion of the round to his opponent before finishing it extremely strong. That is his style.

Yep. A lot of people shitted on Dirrell before the fight. They called him every name under the sun but most here failed to realize the stylistic advantages Dirrell held over Abraham.

    True! This is boxing!

ABout the thread, in no way that was a forgone conclusion for me.
To me, Dirrell was cruising to a wide UD.
Of course he was not as dominant but he was still moving well enough.

Great post. I picked Abraham going into the fight, thinking he would KO Dirrell somewhere in the mid-late to late rounds, but Dirrell put on a boxing show through the first 8 rounds or so.

The straight right that floored Dirrell in the 10th caused a shift in momentum. (It should have been ruled a knockdown, just like when Dirrell battered AA into the ropes earlier should have been ruled a knockdown.) I thought Dirrell looked a bit out on his feet, and was starting to wilt. AA had been cornering him more consistently after the KD.

I would have given AA about a 35 to 40% chance of getting the KO in the last round. The punches AA was landing were very hard punches, and you could see Dirrell was feeling them. Everytime AA would land a big shot (which were pretty infrequent until the 10th), Dirrell stopped staying in the pocket with his hands up and would start to run a bit with his hands down, which he probably would have been doing the entire 12th round.

With all that said, I thought Dirrell put on a solid boxing performance, punctuated by the beautiful counter punch that floored AA. Props to Dirrell for recognizing his flaws in the Froch fight and improving those aspects of his game.

It would have been nice to see how the fight played out over the last five minutes but we won't know. Abraham had started getting to Dirrell so there is the possibility of a ko. But I think Dirrell would have made it to the end and won a comfortable decision. The first minute of the 11th round showed that Dirrell was prepared to get on his bike and ride to the win. It would have been a boring, sloppy, and tense last two rounds but I simply see Dirrell giving away those rounds and winning the decision.

Why is it that the same people who don't think that Abraham seriously hurt Dirrell by hitting him with a flush shot that he didn't see coming while he was unprotected and down on his knees are so certain that Abraham would have sparked Dirrell cold with any clean shot that he landed if the final two rounds of the fight had actually played out? :huh

Seems kind of contradictory to me.

Abraham caught Dirrell with a number of clean powerful shots. Dirrell took them and proceeded to dominate. That's why AA had a very small chance of winning, becasue Dirrell was able to take his shots all night.
