itv back in profit [more boxing maybe]

While it would nice to have live boxing on BBC or ITV, I think its just not going to happen any time soon. Neither has the money or the inclinaton to put on a show that would probably showcase the sport.

What would be great is a recap/highlights program avaiable outside of the sports channels that showcases the biggest stars and the best fights. I'm thinking something like UFC Unleashed, where they show fights about two months after they happened on pay per view. Something like that on BBC or even Sky One would at least allow more people to see what all the fuss was about when there has been a great boxing match.

 

Also one thought on getting boxing back onto free tv - doesn't Richard Desmond now own both Five and Primetime? He's spoken about wanted to use Five to promote his media outlets so perhaps we could get some boxing on the channel?

Well obviously a television station would have to do multiple deals with different promoters - Sky could easily do a show on Sky One or Bravo given they're showing the fights live and are starting to put old fights on Sky Anytime. They could also try to do a linkup with BBC or ITV on the basis that in the long-term it helps create the stars that will secure them bigger ppv audiences for the live fights. The last one is probably far fetched, but hey stranger things have happened.

 

Pretty much all the media stories about the five purchase - focusing on his celebrity magazines more than anything. Just speculating that he may take it further.

Yes but the point is that only those subscribing to Sky Sports can get access to that show. Sky One is avaiable to far more people and could give more people the chance to see boxing matches, even if its after the fact.

And yes, what Sky is doing with Anytime is great.

 

Boxing belongs on subscription channels because it generates large viewing figures but advertisers are not intrested. end of story.

That article is a bit dodgy. There is nothing in the slightest to suggest...

Although the Shobox thing is interesting, I seem to recall from the last one that there are episodes of Shobox on September 10th and 17th?

 

The article isn't supposed to be fact - it's speculation asking if they could come back.

There are a few circumstantial things which suggest they might but I understand they probably aren't.

 

read this article and had to laugh. its just pure speculation with no evidence to back it up. there will be no UK TV for this card. its the shobox date hennesey had had for some time.

you gotta ask yourself, why would any tv company deal with Hennesey especially ITV?

They had a contract with him to show his fighters, but when Froch gets a fight in the US its not part of the deal? How comes the Dirrell fight was not part of the ITV contract?? Instead ITV get O'Donnell vs Tom Glover with Angel McEnzie on the undercard.

If anything its far more likley Primetime would show it. No TV company will deal with Hennesey and I don't blame them.
