Hey guys just saw this video of Carl Froch

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9sEW...owthread.php?t=157936&feature=player_embedded

At 3.15 Carl mentions ITV Box office. I was seriously confused thought Carl was mixing up ITV for SKY and was suprised one of the producers didnt come out and slap him on the back of the head :yep .

But anyway seems serious and there considering showing the Super six on the format. I think they'd make a killing showing the super six. As long as they can advertise it to the mass audience they could make a killing. Cause right now ITV's advertising for boxing stinks. Personally for me its a roulette wheel or using guys on this forum to update me:good. But the general idea for a box office stinks.

    Check this article out
    http://www.express.co.uk/posts/view/90506/ITV-to-charge-its-viewers-3

I understand there skint but if they really believe people would pay to see shows such as x factor and coronation street. There having a laugh :patsch

Surely the best bet would be to lobby the goverment to get BBC to share there licence fee...cause we all know how they waste it!!!

But hey if ITV only move a couple channels like itv4 (lads channel) itv2(female channel) it could work. Especialy if they get more sports on itv4 and whatever women watch  on itv2.

    What do you guys think?

There were rumours of this a few weeks ago. I'll be paying if it happens but I shouldn't have to, IMO. I watch enough pissing adverts in between rounds!

    It's not PPV worthy.

How many people REALLY want to see Froch vs Ward or Dirrell?

How many people outside of the hardcore following actually care about Abraham vs Taylor or any fight not involving Froch?

The only time this will be PPV worthy is if Froch reaches the final and there have been a couple of classic fights along the way.

Id be gutted if they put this on ppv.

Is there not one promoter or TV company that is interesting in promoting and developing our sport...?

Totally agree maybe some of those executives need to take a pay cut rather than there anual 8mill bonus

Maybe this is all a ploy to make those fat cats richer

First of all, remember that article is dated from March, aloooooooooong time ago and not much more has been mentioned about it, other than when people quote that article.

Most people have got the wrong end of the stick on this-presuming an ITV Box Office channel will work in a similar way to SBO, whereas what has actually been said is that ITV may potentially charge £3 a month to customers not watching on sky or virgin-basically freeview. Just to clear that out the way.

Thankfully superfly you understand what they actually mean.

Initially I thought "well who will pay £3 a month for itv" but of course people pay £130-odd a year to watch the BBC. To be honest, I'd imagine it could work as plenty of people will want to watch Emmerdale and Coronation street. A stumbling block would be Champions League Football, obviously what a lot of people would pay for as at least one, first choice match per week has to be shown on "free to air" TV in each country. Hence why Sky never show all of the weeks CL games. However, charging people £3 to watch the channel is definitely not FTA, which could cause problems.

As for the Froch fight, I can't really see it being on this mythical ITV PPV channel. Froch and Hennessy obviously think from their interviews and press releases that pay-itv will be similar to Sky Box office, which is presumably why they are touting for business when it won't be. I've really enjoyed most of the itv4 Boxing shows over the last year and it would be a nice way to end their coverage by showing Froch, but I can't see it. If ITV weren't interested in having Froch live at 3am in April, I can't see them being particularly interested in having him on at a similar time in October-during which time they have announced they are axing their Boxing coverage, and potentially charging for it as well.

Plus with the rumours that Sky are involved with the tournament and I can't see itv showing the Froch fight. They might, but I really doubt it.

Why don't any of the promoters or showtime setup an internet stream. Where they charge 5-7 for the event. Advertise on boxing forums, boxing sites, Newspaper's, television networks. Similar to what Hennesy did for the Froch vs Taylor fight. If showtime did it I think it could work wonders.
They could still offer a tv deal if need be with Sky etc...but they'd be opening there market or target audience. They could charge a reduced rate for the card after its shown.

Does anyone know the numbers Henesssy got for the Froch - Talyor fight? It wasn't well advertised so wouldnt be suprised if his numbers were low

Because they know if they put it on a stream they will lose even more viewers and money for their coffers. This is what the reasoning is:

Sofa V PC- for me the sofa wins so I'll be a mug and usually pay.
Stream I have to pay for V Illegal stream- :think;)

Why I was referring to a joint venture. For those who don't want lets say Sky Box Office but just want to watch the fight. Similar to what Setanta was offering but on a per fight basis or a per show basis. So your not cutting or losing viewers your just expanding your target audience by adding an addtional service to the one which is already available.
The other key thing is that it opens up to other countries who don't have sky or whatever but do have a relaible broadband connection :good.

For instance I read in the news that West Africa is expanding its broadband coverage. Im not saying Parts of Africa don't have there SKY equilavent but im just using it as an example. Plenty of people from around the world use google to get there boxing fixs. If they saw lets say on this website that Hennesy for instance was offering a live stream or a delayed broadcast charged at a decent rate and easy to pay for (paypal or watever secure online payment) im sure several people would sign up

Not all of us mind paying for legal streams ;)

With tech available its possible to setup an internet connection with your tv. Im one of those who use that option. Stream quality is getting better as the video coding standard improves. Youtube already using streaming HD, Several sites offer Divx. TV's these days even come with upscalers to improve the image quality. So I personally believe in years to come its more than enough of a viable option.
Basically what Im saying is sky, showtime, Hbo, promoters or whoever should offer a pay as u watch service or pay as you go service that you can watch without paying a montly subscription.
