Petr Petrov has consistently been putting on fights that would have made great main events on an old Friday Night Fights card for years now, seemingly finding new form and stringing together several good B-Level scalps in the process.

Baranchyk was thought of as something of a power puncher earlier in his career but I believe it's four straight decision wins as of now, with that fight against Ramos pounding in my brain as a warning sign that the slight +230 underdog, Petrov is going to run the prospect straight into a wall this weekend. He's simply too easy to hit, and too easy to drag into a brawl, something that Petrov absolutely excels at.

Petrov is a good body puncher who goes up top to the head after the body shots. That's a good well schooled trait and hard to learn in boxing. Dangerous fight for Ivan, but Ivan is the bigger guy and I expect his punches to get there before Petrov's and fight over.

I thought Baranchyk was fighting Yigit? Did that fall through

This is the real main event, for me (as I believe Rougarou is going to ice the Blue Machine rather easily).

After watching the ShoBox replay of Baranchyk vs. Keenan Smith last night, my gut feeling that Petrov ought to be favored is strongly reinforced. "The Beast" has gotten away with murder against the class they've put him in with so far, and still has loads of bad habits that a savvy, perennially hungry and in-shape veteran with excellent fundamentals, intangibles (primarily thinking mental toughness, and having a keen eye for rookie mistakes to exploit) and underrated pop like Petrov can make him pay for. IB will lunge in with his lazy power leads from outside and Petrov will Veg-O-Matic his face & rib-cage.

Petrov has a good chance to win this one.

Very good chance. Baranchyk has a ceiling the overall quite underrate Petrov either clears or is just below (meaning that if not tomorrow, Baranchyk getting exposed will happen in the very future when he faces someone even slightly better than Petrov).

Baranchyk has also been out of the ring for three quarters of a year, so Petrov's own inactivity doesn't worry me much. He's always shown himself to be an absolute grinder in the gym.

I also don't hold the Flanegan fight against Petrov in the slightest considering he was facing someone that probably outweighed him by 10 pounds on fight night and had a significant size advantage, along with the fact that he's one of the most negative "points fighters" in the world today. He hardly dominated Petrov... he out maneuvered him, and took a points win.

No concerns with Petrov moving back up in weight and accordingly struggling against the size of the opposition up there, IB, or do you feel the five pounds won't make much of a difference?

Exactly. Petrov shines against guys that will meet him halfway and join him in the trench (so long as they don't have elite power; see Maidana)

As long as he stays away from massive punchers or negative boxers, Petrov occupies that gatekeeper niche where he's a handful for everybody in spite of not being the most athletically blessed.

I feel that Baranchyk is enough of a flat arm-puncher to make it moot. He isn't truly explosive. A little heavy-handed, which isn't enough to stop Petrov from taking him to school.

Hope this fight doesn't end up in some kind of odd head clash or elbow caused cut to the scalp or face... there have been some pretty odd cuts in Petrov's last few fights before Flanegan, Petrov is a very rough inside fighter who really demoralizes you and beats you down little by little.

Yeah, real possibility given their respective styles. Like I said, Baranchyk falls in headfirst a lot when he punches, as recently as vs. Keenan Smith. :sconf:
