1)Manny Pac 2)Calzaghe 3)JMM 4)Hopkins 5)Vazquez 6)Cotto 7)Pavlik 8)Mijares 9)Rafa Marquez 10)Calderon http://www.thering-online.com/ringpages/ratings2.html
I like the list a lot. Juan Manuel Marquez deserves to be in the top 3 (I would have him at 2). Nice to see Joe Calzaghe getting recognition at number 2 (I would have him at 1) The inclusion of Mijares is great too, I think he is one of the better technians in the game today.
I like the list also, but I still contest that Calderon has done NOTHING to warrant a top 15 ranking, much less a top 10. I rank Caldy around 18 or so, the comp down there at 108 is average and the guy he almost lost to with Cazares is very average. The comp at 100 was pathetic compared to other divisions. Montiel, Guzman and even Shane Mosely deserve to be ranked over Calderon on competition performance alone. Mosely recently lost a close one to Cotto, the number 5, that's better than anything Calderon has done. For some reason Calderon's undefeated record, excellent skill has made everyone think he belongs in there, not looking at the competition at all.
That right!!!! How the hell Bhop is still above Pavlik???? Pavlik KO the guy who Bhop can't beat in 2 fights. Is this because Golden Boy owns it??? They both Rank Top rank elite Cotto & Pavlik lower than GBP recently lost fighters JMM and Bhop??? That's BS!!! Should be: Pac Pavlik Calzaghe Cotto JMM Vasquez Donaire Mijares Bhop hatton
Even when he was at 105lbs Calderon was smaller than all of the guys, now at 108 he is a midget . It's not his fault that there are no potential ATGs at his weight, the best he can do is take on the best in the division and keep winning.
I'm not asking for ATG's, I'm asking for SOLID B to B+ fighters, which none are around and he's struggled with several of the average fighters there. I know that 108 houses 1 or 2 good fighters, he has yet to face them, he went for the weakest one in Cazares and nearly lost. I don't care what size he is, P4P is about your effectiveness at the weight class you currently fight in mixed with your overall recent resume. I'd rate him about 18-25 on that criteria. If one fighter at one division defeats several very good fighters easily, then another defeats lesser fighters not as easy, who ranks higher? Then you have another fighter who nearly defeated a top ranked p4p recently, where does he rank? Because he's in a weak as hell division, he deserves a free pass in the P4P rankings, over more deserving fighters when he's not even defeated a weak titlist clearly? Give me a break, this is my problem with him being top 10.
Naw dude, Calderon didn't "Almost" lose to Cazares. He "Almost" got KO'd but he recovered and he won a close but clear decision!!! It was his first move up in weight and Calderon gave up a 5-6 inch height advantage! Look at Calderon's record, He schools everyone he fights just as clear if not more clear than Calzaghe has his entire career. Calderon's last fight he won by shut out 12 rounds to 0 on ALL THREE JUDGES CARDS, and the little ****er is at the end of his career. There isn't anything more Calderon can do to prove his worth, and he certainly deserves to be top 10 without a doubt. The guy is undefeated and he schools the **** out of his opposition regardless of what it is H2H he is quite amazing at that weight class and for that he deserves top 10. As far as boxing talent and skill is concerned there are quite a few of individuals on that p4p list that can't even hold Calderon's jock strap lol. If Calderon was at a higher weight class maintaining that kind of athletisicm and quickness, he'd have dominated and been p4p long ago.
And Cazares is STILL a limited, B- level fighter at the end of the day. It's not like he was even fighting the best titlist in that poor division. Calzaghe fought better fighters overall, by a long shot, even in some of his horrible years he still fought a good fighter here and there and destroyed them. Cazares fits the bill of a less than Byron Mitchell level fighter, the guy is average. Against a gate keeper. It's impressive that he won so easily, but against a gate keeper no less, he has yet to face the best fighter at 108 and his resume at 100-105 is very shallow. How is he quite amazing at 108 when he hasn't even fought a top 3 opponent at 108? I'm not asking for an elite P4P fighter, just face a ****ing top 3 opponent, the guy's a cherry picker to absurd degree's. I HIGHLY disagree. This is what I'm talking about here, the guy is crazy overrated for showcasing excellent skill in a **** poor weak division, there are loopholes in his game, he's a 1 dimensional distance only fighter with hardly any solid inside game, of course he's very hard to hit, he keeps the offense to a minimum and stays out of range with his excellent speed. I don't think this should be compared to guys who are making top fighters miss like crazy inside and at the mid-range. And an elite pressure fighter like Cotto has just as much skill as he does, with a different style and approach, and again, having fought top competition. He's very comparable to Cory Spinks, a bit better, but with Spinks facing top competition. You see Spinks in the P4P rankings? And I'm not bashing him for his style, I appreciate these guys, I'm just talking about ranking him accordingly. If Calderon was a larger fighter, being adjusted to the weight P4P, he'd have picked up several losses being that the competition is a hell of a lot better at higher weights like 112-130, therefore we'd be talking about him as if he's a good contender only.
