I think that Amsterdam would argue that guys like Pea, Mijares, or Mayweather can fight across all ranges-- long range, mid range, and close range-- and do so effectively. And they have more variety to their defensive strategies, effectively changing up their pattern of fighting during fights several times, engaging and disengaging, moving from the inside to the outside, opening up and laying back on the defensive, increasing and decreasing punch output and variety.

I totally understand that, These fighters mentioned there are "Gods" so we say right lol? But I don't think you gotta be that good to be considered a true pure boxer. There are not many fighters that can have that many dimensions to their game.

True, but that is Amsterdam's definition of what a pure boxer is (I think at least). Yours can be that he is brilliant at taking his gameplan of comfortably outboxing his opponent from the outside to win comfortable decisions-- and that would be ok.

I come out in the middle. I see his brilliance, its just that on the entertainement side of things I like to see more action, more variety, etc. You can't deny his effectiveness though, he is brilliant at doing him.

Calderon IS a pure boxer, I just said he's not on level with these other guys, thus why the title of the thread provoked it. 'Calderon, one of the best pure boxers ever'. NO, he's not, but he is very good, nothing against him personally.
