Ivan Calderon v Giovanni Segura

Iribe was shite and just landed a lucky punch.

Calderon is getting more defensive as time goes by and focusses on using angles for defence rather than offence which is not a good thing IMO, as it gives his oppponents the chance to start an offence.

Segura is a quick starter and has a very awkward punching style so may catch Calderon early as Segura would be hell to time for a technical wizard like Calderon. So the first 4 rounds are very much danger rounds for Calderon. After 4-6 rounds Segura will start to slow down especially if he is missing alot and Calderon should run away with the points from then on.

But the first 4 rounds are the one sthat will be interesting, mainly to see how cautious Calderon will be and how he will deal with the odd angles Segura presents. Segura's slow feet will be a problem but Calderon will exploit that with his use of angles.

I cant wait.

I remember 2 Brit forumites having a right ding dong over 'little men'. Basically some spastic said little men are **** and he didn't care about them. Someone else...maybe slip&counter but I could be wrong went absolutely mental...savagery ensued...it was a bloodbath

I'm honestly looking at Segura for the stoppage here.

He's crude, really crude. And you might think that plays into a skilled Calderon's hands, which it does in a way, but Segura is also relentless.

Calderon is going to take the **** out of him early doors, but even though he'll be giving away maybe the first four rounds, Segura is gonna be hitting arms, cuffing the back of the head, spanking the hips, hitting anything basically.

I'm looking at a late Segura stoppage rather than an earlier one. Calderon is good, very good, but I've noticed he loses a bit out of his legs in the last few years as the rounds go on. Once Segura gets him as near as possible to stationary he'll start to land power punches on relevant areas.

I'm thinking Segura TKO10.

D-MAC interesting take. I just think Segura is the one who will fade before calderon as he has never shown top drawer stamina and will be missing alot. And by the late rounds you'd think Calderon could have figure dhim out abit.

I just think Segura is not gonna be absorbing that much damage from Calderon, which will make him a viable late threat.

Also, I love Calderon (no homo), but think he is getting to that point, age-wise, where he is gonna get old overnight and be there for the taking (he's not been as impressive recently). Think it might be in this fight.

 

I think Iribe was a nice opponent to test the waters for a segura fight with and I thought he dealt with him very well. although iribe is the class below Segura he is of similar style.

 

I actually think the two fights with Cazares took a lot out of Calderon, longevity-wise. Think Segura may close the show on Calderon, finishing off what Cazarez started.

This is mainly a hunch though.

 

Just watched the Segura vs Tello bout.

Segura is relentless to start the bout, this is where he is at his most dangerous with those long right hooks and left uppercuts, this is where Calderon has to watch because there is no way Segura can keep that pace for 12 rounds and he has never really won a long-drawn out battle.

I culd definitly see a stray right hook catch Calderon and send him over.

 

Won a long drawn out battle? **** sake Greg he has 20 KO's in 24 wins (which is great for that division), most of them early doors. The Tello bout lasted 3 rounds. We can't really gauge his longevity, apart from Canchila I.

And that could just have been an anomaly, because depsite the dodgy stoppage he was destroying Canchila in their second fight, much more than he was in the first 4 rounds of the initial match-up.
