At 108lbs, Calderon is getting slaughtered late I reckon but at 105...Gonzalez isn't quite seasoned yet and Calderon has been squabbling over straps for years and years. He was robust at the weight, as adept at making guys miss as anyone in world boxing and his legs were tireless. More than that, he's one fo the few guys who could match Gonzalez on combos plus he was faster. He's paticake by comparison of course, but maybe he could break up the vaunted attack. Who is your pick over 12, 105lbs?
Probably Gonzalez still, his body attack was awesome and would do what Segura's did. Iron boy's style doesn't seem like it'd do well vs Chocolatito, but I think given the issues which Takayama's style posed for a younger Roman, Calderon could build upon that. Tough one. Sticking with my gut. Chocolatito UD.
Segura fight, I watched them today - almost irrelevant IMO. Calderon with his legs gone is a Ferrari without an engine, a useless off the cliff remnants of a fighter. His strategy laterally was literally to stand in a corner and have a fist fight with a much bigger, stronger man. It was a heartbreaker. I agree though that the styles favour Gonzalez. He's lethal when he could build a head of steam terrifying really.
A lot of rubes don't really even appreciate Calderon for what he was. Me, for instance. I don't appreciate him at all. But that doesn't mean he shouldn't BE appreciated. Because he should. Lord, grant me appreciation and continence. But not yet. That is what I say, nightly. Except for the other definition of continence. I want one of those definitions and hopefully have it during the night. Or else, gosh, it's not good.
I guess that's passing for consensus on this forum for this weight class. I wouldn't be seeing a stoppage though, I almost think that pick rash. By the power vested in me, I declare Roman Gonzalez UD12 Ivan Calderon final.
I'll still pick a young Chocolatito over Calderon. Gonzalez's style would be all wrong even for a prime Calderon. Much like Segura I think Gonzalez would have walked through him.
