Anyone have any clips/videos? How good is Calderon? Would you please describe his style, his strengths and weaknesses? :good
Calderon is a great technical boxer and a great defensive fighter. Really a defensive master if you ask me. The guy is so slick. He throws nice, quick combinations from time to time and has a good jab. He has speed and an excellent ability to counterpunch. A top 10 pound for pound fighter. I would call him the poor-man's Pernell Whitaker. Calderon is not as good off of the backfoot nor as good defensively. His weaknesses are that he is past his prime. He has struggled with Ronald Barrera and Hugo Fidel Cazares (which is understandable since Cazares is very big for his weight class). Calderon isn't very powerful - he can stun guys with quick shots that they don't see coming, but he isn't going to knock you out. Some people call him a runner, but the only evidence I saw of that is against the afformentioned Cazares. He's a great fighter and with 2 or 3 more successful defenses against top opposition, he should be a hall of famer. It's ashame that he's on the radar of the boxing world, even if it is a small dot, when he's clearly seen his best days.
Great defensive fighter, quick, great lateral movement, sharp combinations. Weaknesses- age, he can be broken down over the course of 12 rounds (he fought a guy with 13 fights, was dominating, then was broken down and held on to the final bell for a SD once at 105), and only has a mediocre chin.
