I've come to the conclusion that Roberto Duran would knock out Monzon

Anyway, what's the significance of "making excuses for his losses"? It can't be that people are over-rating him H2H and not taking enough account of Benitez or Hearns, since it's natural to take the best version of a fighter when considering such match-ups. The only thing it affects is his level of domination, which isn't a huge deal considering that pretty much all of those losses did come past his prime, well above his natural weight anda against high-ranking ATGs.

Well that used to be the case but nowadays if I want to feel inspired the first place I go is to me Duran vs Barkley tape. My appreciation has grown, I'm now well aware of Roberto's skill set, he was a much more subtle genius and less flashly than Ray. I like to watch both fighters, but neither hold a special place in my heart say...Marco or Woo-Yuh do. On a completely different note; Pep, Patterson, and Napoles have impressed the **** out of me recently.

I still have alot of tape\bouts to watch, been watching MAB too. I like it when it does not look like a fighters doing much, but you just know that he is ****ing up the other guy, nice short hard shots. It looks like an even bout until one guy is ****ed and the other looks like he just got out of the locker room.

Exactly. The guy did enough to be ranked as a great fighter even after he said No Mas, i'll always remember him for his fights with Buchanan, Leonard I and Moore; and I think he would always have had problems with Benitez and Hearns but they're both ATG's to! I dont see how anyone can be a Duran hater.

Palomino is my favourite Duran performance.

I really like Leonard in the 2nd Duran fight. A masterclass, and Duran loses kudos from me for this. He doesn't lose kudos for losing to Hearns, who was flat out phenomenal at 154. He loses points for his efforts in the Laing and Benitez fights (to name two) but made up for the post/Leonard II inconsistent patches with late career surges.

I can't say how anyone can say he's overrated GENERALLY. He is given credit for what he achieved, which is a lot. Objective posters know he wasn't perfect, but which fighter was?

Indeed, mate, indeed....... You and I live on opposite continents, where mine is currently going into spring, and yours is preparing for winter, yet we both agree that, this was one bizarre ****ing opinion!!!

Let me just say i've never put stock in any excuse. I may have discussed the possibilities of such holding water, but i've never used them ultimately. Losses are losses, wins are wins, the manner of the loss/win does not matter as much as who they were to/over when it comes to an assessment of legacy or greatness, they come into play when assessing a head to head match up. I'm consistent and unbiased 100%, it's gay how we can't like a truly unique fighter without being accused of bias. That's not aimed at you Addie, but you know others are doing it.

Duran has excuses for all his losses, so what? It's funny, it's not like we believe them. He's a great fighter who loves to win and hates to lose. Many many many fighters have this same trait. Oscar De La Hoya is the same, Mike Tyson is the same. Lighten the **** up.

:admin This is the point I'm making Teeto, people do believe them - they want to believe them. I'm not going to kick up a fuss for a fighter making excuses, Marco Antonio Barrera had excuses for every loss. His niece was threatened to be kidnapped leading up to Junior Jones I, he was robbed in the rematch, he was robbed in Erik Morales I, there was a Forrest fire leading up to Manny Pacquiao I, he didn't train hard for Marquez because, "it was just another fight", and my personal favorite, he thought he controlled Manny in the rematch. The problem we have here is, whereas we all don't put any stock in those excuses whatsoever, if there was a Forrest fire leading up to Leonard II...you better ****in' believe we'd never hear the end of it. People put stock in Duran's excuses and that's the difference.

Yeah, and George Foreman was poisoned against Ali, and he could have knocked out Morrison except he held back because he didn't want to ruin the young man.
