The assessment of chin strength has been part of boxing since its inception, and those of us who specialize in this form of analysis offer our judgements on this just as others who look at other aspects of the sport.

Sadly because there are so many blind hero worshippers who can't stand obvious flaws in punch resistance pointed out in their favorite fighters, we are attacked simply for offering our interpretations.

For example, it is clear and well documented in this thread that Wilder didn't take the greatest shot, which led to his management avoiding live bodies for most of his career until forced to fight decent fighters after which - predictably - he was utterly destroyed. And yet simply pointing this out subjects one to scurrilous attacks.

You proved his point about trolling.

As a Wilder hater, I'll back up statements I've made say and I wouldn't classify it as glass. Wilder always got up whenever he got dropped. He's definitely isn't iron-chinned but at worst it's probably a little bit worse than average. I sometimes am too loose with saying someone has a glass chin, I've said that about both Wilder and Fury. Glass chin is too harsh for both of these guys.

Now a guy like Roy Jones Jr or Khan, that is a glass chin. Not only have they visited the shadow realm on occasion, a guy like Khan was getting dropped by feather-fisted SFW when he was coming through the ranks. Prescott, who knocked Khan out in like 30 seconds, actually stiffened Khan's legs early with a jab. Not only that, Prescott had like almost no KO's for the rest of his career. That is an example of a glass chin, not taking shots off of one of the biggest and hardest hitting HWs in the current HW division.

Can we judge chin strength at HW the same way we do at other weights?

Some chins are granite and then there's everyone else, seems to be the way.

Eh, Holmes dropped Ocasio with a jab. Courage T. dropped Daroll Wilson hard with a jab before getting knocked out. A few nights ago Daniel Dubois wobbled the sturdy Hrgovic with a jab. Cotto had Clottey down a jab in a very competitive bout.

It's not a good look, but it does happen in boxing.

I think Malignaggi dropped Edner Cherry with a jab (if I'm remembering the correct fight). We all know Malignaggi can't punch his way out of a paper bag. However, I think the difference is Khan's leg got stiffened and was KO'd like 15 seconds later. Also, a lot of time getting dropped by a jab is usually a balance issue.

There are exceptions, I've seen guys get stopped by a jab but usually after they've already taken a beating.

Interesting one because Cherry had a top shelf chin. Didn't Paule also hurt that super tough African dude? Can never remember his name. Lovemore?

I don't rememer that fight. Africans are usually durable fighters. Clottey had a really underrated chin.

Pulev gave Wlad spaghetti legs with a jab in the first or second round IIRC.

Usyk KOed Dubois with a jab.

And Ortiz was KD by a Ruiz jab lol
