It's the middle of a rainy day and I came across what I thought was the whole fight on youtube... Made sure I saw they had parts 1/4, 2/4, 3/4 and 4/4 before I even bothered to start watching it. When part 4/4 ended well before the fight did, it became obvious I was going to develop hemorrhoids. But, luckily, someone else had uploaded the rest of the rounds. I cannot remember Howard Cosell ever annoying me that badly during this fight(must've blocked it out). Sporadically calling out "Hagler was hurt by that!" or stunned or rocked, etc. Not even for any particular reason other than the event that Antuofermo landed cleanly.

Almost every time he said it, I committed to making the universal masturbatory gesture at the computer screen, though he obviously couldn't see me. It was scored a draw. I think I gave Antuofermo three rounds. I am disgruntled. I have no reason to make this thread other than to vent... If you don't like it, I can't help you. ...Grumble, grumble, grumble, Pongsaklek Wonjongkam.

PS: "Pongsaklek" is being picked up by my spellcheck and it suggests I mean "Spongecake" instead. Stupid spellcheck.

I enjoyed Cosell as a kid ... now when I hear him I cringe ... he was a terrible boxing announcer ... he really knew facts but nothing about the sport ... and so annoying ...

Hagler got terribly robbed n this fight , case closed ...

Cosell had a real knack for creating a sense of drama with his commentating style, but he knew very little about boxing from what I could gather from listening to him.

This decision has to go down as the worst I've ever seen.

I get that from Cosell too, but it doesn't normally really annoy me because I always like Cosell as a person. The same way I am not normally annoyed by some of the more ridiculous HBO house fighter love that comes out of Lampley's commentary because I like Lampley. But,...sometimes...to the moon, Alice!

And, incidentally, I thought making this thread was a dream in between naps. I really did just to a thread to ***** and moan. Wow. That's a little obnoxious. I'm okay with that though. It made me feel better.

I thought Vito did so well late in the fight and had a big 13th rd. Hagler edged a few rds but no big rds. Vito put the pressure on Hagler and made the fight close. Prior to the fight I thought it would be a blow-out for Hagler he was held in high regard. I really dont think Hagler did enough to take a title. A draw was a fair verdict, although I would not argue if Hagler got the nod or Vito. I just dont think he did enough to win. Cosell made the famous remark that "Vito had intestinal fortitude (Balls)

Hagler was the smoother fighter but Vito crowded and bulled him, not pretty but effective and Hagler did get rocked in the 13th when Vito called him in to brawl

Good call, sounds about right to me, the only way to correctly score the fight was a wide UD in favour of Hagler, it still pisses me off that it was scored a ****ing "draw".

Could be at the time I expected a blow out by the big talk of Hagler" Vito the Mosquito" and Vito actually made the fight. Hagler did not show enough hunger to me and was shook up a few times. I am a big underdog guy and am old school in regard to a title changing hands. I dont think Hagler took that title and he knew that fight was much closer than anticipated.

Now, in the James Toney Dave Tiberi fight that was a case that Dave TIberi was robbed.

Hagler is one of my top ATG middleweights and favorite boxing people but the 1st Vito fight is not one I like to remember

We do have that in common and it's true Hagler wasn't in seek and destroy mode by any means. Ah, well. Some fights just stick in a man's craw. Forever!

    I agree.

Marvin looked razor sharp early. Just like everyone thought & most folks were going with a mid-fight stoppage. I was. But he sure didn't look razor sharp the second half of the fight. I thought a draw was ok & much better result than say the Weaver-Dokes 2 draw.

The thing with Antuofermo is that he had a style not many liked. Cosell sure didn't. But that doesn't mean he doesn't win rounds when he mugs guys either. And he was like a Fullmer and always seem to turn a bout into his style of fight sooner or later. That is a skill & lots of other fighters sure could've used that skill. Vito had that great gastank. Once he slowed down a little, the other guy had slowed down a lot. and Marvin was not landing clean blows anywhere near as often.

Marvin sure did comeback though and did not get discouraged. Lots of fighters would have.
