I've never seen so much anger towards the fans of the winner?! Margarito's win really

He had about 2 fans here prior to the fight. Now everybody knew it. Cotto, on the other hand, has went from the second coming to a scrub.

An iron jawed big hitter will beat a "boxer" 9 times out of 10.

I don't think anyone is taking away from what Margarito did, this guy is a true warrior, monster chin, and awesome to watch. Nonetheless I don't understand why Margo fans like the original poster have such a hard time dealing with the fact that many Cotto fans are frustrated with the backwards fight that Cotto fought, trying to be pernell whitaker. He was the smaller man, with the better skills, more accurate punches, but only above average defensive and footwork movement; backing up and trying to rope-a-dope was by far not his best strategy.

    Things Cotto didn't do:

    1) Use his boxing skills in the center of the ring.

What this doesn't mean, is to go to war for 12 rounds. It means using his better speed movement, movement, timing, and accuracy in the center of the ring where he has more room to box, allowing him to actually be the aggressor.

He actually did this a little early on (beginning of many rounds, places throughout round 2,3). In these spots he either came forward or held his ground, and got the best of the exchanges because he threw, more accurate, faster punches. Each time Margo covered, and reset. Each time he did this Cotto, was temporarily neutralizing Margo's BEST asset against him: his relentless attack.

Why get away from something when you have, even moderate success?. I guess your claiming that he had no choice on this aspect.

    2) Clinching

Pretty straightforward. Stuck in a corner, with Margo throwing those wide power shots, its a no-brainer. Cotto did not do this. Again apparently you are claiming he didn't have a choice.

    3) Going to the body

I'm not as keen on this as some others are, but there is certainly truth to it. Take away his legs, tire him out, cause him to get defensive. Cotto didn't do this at all.

    4) Staying off the ropes

Why oh why hang out there? This move made no sense whatsoever. This is what Margo wants! A free target. This guy is not going to punch himself out, he's going to come forward all night.

I want to point out, these are not excuses, Margo gained a hell of a lot of respect. But these are facts about what Cotto didn't do that was in his control.

I don't know, maybe people are mistaking Cotto fighting his hardest with a mistaken strategy, with fighting the best possible fight that he could.

Dude, Cotto's corner was begging him to do that. Cotto couldn't execute. He deemed the price to pay too high to go to the body and he was being pressed to hard to stay in the middle.

    Clinching meant eating uppercuts...etc... etc...

Margarito took him out of his game plan. They fought at Margarito's pace because of Margarito.
