I've officially given up on Jermain Taylor as an "elite" SMW.

I know the fights been over for a few weeks but is anyone still reeling from this fight?

I can't believe how flawed Taylor's game still is. His footwork is nonexistent. He can't use it to get out of the way of shots nor can he use it to set up his own shots. His defense is horrible. He only goes backwards. So anyone coming straight forward will land. That's why Pavlik did. That's why Froch did. It's sad to see such a talented fighter not being able to use some basic footwork to avoid shots.

But having said that, Froch won fair and square. Well, i still think if Taylor had a semi-brain and used his skills the right way, he would starch Froch. But he doesn't. But give credit to Froch for his durability, determination, power and chin.

The second part of the fight against Froch is the most frustrating. Even then, if he could just stay up, he could have won a split decision or got a draw even.

It's funny how many really good boxers get 1 loss on their record and they're totally ruined.

    Case in point.

JT has no heart for a brutal war anymore and gets broken mentally in the fight when the other guy shows huge determination.

which makes hopkins' two losses a dent in his career..it's ok to lose one, but he must have devised a plan to beat taylor convincingly the second time around

I am a JT fan and would hate to see him retire, I just like watching him fight. I think that leaving Steward was a horrible idea, and believe he lost to Froch because of this. He needs a professional trainer who will push him and challenge him more.

I would love for him to work with Roach, but doubt it will happen.

Taylor's lost three times, had a couple of lackluster wins where he looked dreadful against much smaller fighters and then there are the questionable decisions against Hopkins and Wright. The guy has clearly demonstrated not only that he's a flawed fighter who's not going change but also the fact that he's one of the more egregious media hypejobs in recent memory.

Well, i thought based on his solid performance against Pavlik 2 where he boxed a lot better and his dominant decision over Lacy that he was on his way to polishing his game more and become an "elite" SMW. But that was just a mirage. He is still flaws galore and i have officially given up on the idea that he will fix them. He's got the raw tools but he just can't utilize them correctly.

Taylor and Steward were a terrible match; Taylor fought the worst performances of his career under Steward.

He hasn't been the same since leaving Pat Burns, who IMO he needs to go back to.

Taylor is a legit fighter, good boxer. He was just beaten by a very determined hard hitting Froch and Pavlik. Hell, he beat Hopkins!

    I think he's a good fighter. I wouldn't buy a ppv with him though.
