I would agree that Jones had more natual athleticism than pretty much anyone I can think of - Maybe a guy like Emile Griffith and a couple of others for physical blessings, but ATHLETICALLY - Jones was probably the best.

When it comes to fundamentals, boxing ability and the thirst for battle and the will to win - Leonard is about 230 positions above Roy.

The books of the insane or the books of people who started watching boxing in 1996 and never looked back.

He's not in Leonards league in the ATG list.

    Not even close.

I mean, Leonard SAUGHT the toughest competition, Jones was saftey first in opponent selection AND in the ring!

I am NOT a Leonard fan - Hagler is my favourite all time - Tszyu the second fav - But Ray - YOU HAVE to respect his acheivements and his fighting spirit.

I've never seen Roy put in a performance ala the first Hearns fight that Ray did - The third most crushed I've felt after a fight behind Leonard Hagler and Tszyu Hatton ever.

youve never seen roy put in a performance like the first hearns fight? thats because in his prime roy never had to come from behind. im not insane, i value accomplishment, but h2h roy is at least tied with SRR. im a fan of both guys, i never said i didnt respect rays achievments. in closing, just because my opinion differs from yours doesnt make me a fan that just started watching boxing, so STFU. thank you.

2 me Jones just got into boxing when there werent any real legitimate threats to him. Even though h2h he probably would beat most of the great fighters of the past. I know that seems crazy, but people actually forget how good he really was. Skills like that was never seen in a boxing ring be4 RJ. I mean there have been other fighters with a lot of skills no doubt. Ray leonard had skills no doubt. But when you sit back and think about itm did he ever posess the kind of skills Roy Jones had? Can anyone do what RJ does in aring besides himself? WIthout damn near losing a round?

Same thing will happen to Mayweather. People are riding his dick now because he is undefeated but he will age and will lose some eventually, then we will look back on his career and point out to the guys he could have fought but didnt.

Larry does go on to say 'not yet anyway'. I'm sure he says that. RJJ wasn't Leonard at that point.

You know I was really torned by that back then. On one hand you have roy who beat hopkins already and was undisputed lihgt heavy champ, and on the other hand you have hopkins who lost to roy but was the undisputed middle weight champ. I guess you could argue that since roy beat hopkins he should get the bigger purse, but you could also argue that hopkins being undisputed middle champ and roy being undisputed light heavy champ would be a straight 50/50 split. for being as big of a fight as could be made back then, I think we as fans became 'collateral damage' to the stubborness of both of those asses.
