It probably was stopped a hair too soon. Had Steele let the fight go on, Tyson would have gotten a clean KO, and obviated the need for the unnecessary rematch.

Agree. He was on his way to getting put down for good.

It's hard to say imo. Second s after steele waves it over ruddock looks absolutely OK. I know stopping a fight can have the effect of cold water on your head effect on some fighters, it seems to suddenly revive them. But razor looked as if he may have clung on and perhaps gotten through. Ruddock had a habit also of going down heavy from a kd and then jumping up as though he was fine. But factoring in tyson s ability to finish you when hurt or stunned , perhaps he wouldn't have got through the round anyway. So perhaps slightly too early but even then tyson may have stopped ruddock.

Because of all the shite that kicked off when he jumped in and stopped it.

Exactly, the fight was stopped early which caused the outrage.

Do you think if it hadn't all kicked off like it did, perhaps a slight protesting from ruddock s camp, they would have ordered a rematch? I'm not sure. It might have been a case of next fight move on for tyson s team.

Too early. Tyson's assault looked far worse than it actually was. A few more seconds would have seen if Ruddock could gather himself. Steele could have even called a KD when Ruddock hit the ropes.

In the heat of the moment, refs can make rash decisions. But in Steele's view, it was probably better to be safe than sorry.

I think it was a bit early, as stated before Ruddock might have recovered. He had a habit of looking out on his feet then suddenly springing back to life. He had a decent chin and decent recovery before Tyson had been done with him.

Damn, I still can't believe Steele stopped the Chavez/Taylor fight with 2 seconds to go!

Sorry, I just can't help going back to that when I hear Steele's name mentioned. Anyway the fight I thought was stopped too early but in the long term, I don't think it did either fighter any favours as the punishment, both took in the 12 rounds of the rematch couldn't have been anything but detrimental to the rest of their careers.

Watch closely. Ruddocks arms are DOWN as he falls into the ropes.
