'I would never want to fight him now. He's not the same fighter and I'd have nothing to gain by beating a shadow of what he once was. Jones was a great fighter in his day and a great name, but he's been knocked out twice, knocked out cold. What would I have to gain by knocking him out for a third time?'.

    Good ****ing question Joe.

Taken from his Autobiography, 'No Ordinary Joe'.

This from an interview in January 2008:

"Roy Jones was a great fighter but not a great fighter anymore.. he's been KO'd twice in summat like his last 5 fights so I don't see it as a motivating fight for me either so after this fight(Hopkins fight) the number one fight will be Kelly Pavlik or Jermain Taylor, one of them two.."

This is Joe Calzaghe...He likes fights against old timers but not mandatory defense !!! It's been like this for over ten years...

Chan Dawson is going in the same direction...

Yeah i heard him in a interview last year saying something like he wanted to fight Jones "but he went and got himself knocked out" and he also said he wanted the winner of the taylor-pavlik fight now all the sudden both pavlik/taylor is out of his league but "a shadow of what he once was" jones jr. "is the perfect way to end his career"...

i am a fan of calzaghe and would love for him to fight joner jr in NY. but if he wants to truely be a legend he has to face Pavlik after the RJJ fight, possibly at the new wimbledon in front of 100,000 like hatton is going to do...

no that is the way u finish a legendary career :!:

What do ya expect. Not only is he way overrated, he's a hypocrite too. Thats just the direction boxings turning nowadays....I guess Gayweather paved the way for low/risk, high reward fighter. Making their so called "Hall of Fame" resume by fighting over the hill, once elite fighters. But hey, Calzagay's done that his whole career. Eubanks and are the only two HOF'ers he's ever beaten. Eubanks was past it and Hopkins was f'n 43! What a joke this guy is, but his nuthuggers will still defend him.

I don't think even with the roof the new Wimbledon will hold anymore than 19,000 centre court. The other 81,000 would have to go on Henman Hill, which isn't ideal.

Let's be fair though, light-heavy is generally an ageing division, so Dawson isn't going to have much choice, I mean Tarver, RJJ, Johnson, B-Hop, amongst the best in the division and all 39+, Calzaghe 36 aswell, same with Woods, even Erdei's 34 aswell.

this taken from the BBC july 4th

"I'll fight Paulie Malignaggi in November in Las Vegas again, so I'll be able to take my wonderful fans over there again and if I win that, then it'll be my eighth world title," he said.
A showdown with Pacquiao, who claimed the WBC lightweight title with victory over David Diaz on Saturday, would pit two of the most popular boxers in the sport against each other.

Both Hatton and Pacquiao have a huge following and the fight, which the 'Hitman' hopes to hold in front of 100,000 fans in Britain, would prove a fitting finale to his career. "In the New Year I'm hoping to fight either Manny Pacquiao or Oscar de la Hoya at Wembley Stadium in front of 100,000 people and after that I'll probably retire," added Hatton.

Now this is a bad statement. In a book of his....:-(

And now he choose RJJ as his last epic fight - doesnt make sense at all.

But I really look forward to it anyway - the clash of styles + the speed of both is going to be exciting. + its two legends we are talking about.
