I never knew that he almost gave us this fight. It's a shame it didn't happen.

I used to have a mocked up Tyson vs. Jones Jr poster as my desktop on my computer years ago. I was pumped for this potential fight, lol.

You guys must really hate Roy Jones Jr.. If cross eyed Tarver put Roy to sleep with his legs crossed then Mike Tyson would have put Roy in a coma. He just might have come out of it by this time 2018.

I've heard this was a possibility, but he's made a mistake regarding the dates.

Mike was beaten by Lennox in June, 2002, and Roy beat Ruiz in March, 2003. And if it was going to happen, it should have been instead of/before Roy fought Tarver.

For Roy to have fought Mike after Tarver, he'd have had to have gained the muscle he'd just lost. It would have been bizarre. Also, Mike was knocked out by Danny Williams just a few months after Roy had lost the rematch to Tarver.

No doubt! I heard evander Holyfield in real life say "I moved up to heavyweight because heavyweights can't fight!" (Paraphrasing but I over heard him saying this to some old coach)

    Lol!!!

Roy could have stayed at HW after beating Ruiz, beat a number of top 10-20 guys, retired as maybe the GOAT

Instead he goes back to LHW and runs into Tarver, his personal boogie man

    Stupid management

Remember, he beat tarver the first time. That actually was pretty impressive; to dominate 175 for so long, go up and beat a top 5 heavyweight and then come back down and beat his biggest threat at 175. If he had retired then he’d be in the discussion for top 10 ATG (rightly or wrongly). The fact that he beat Antonio in their first fight has always undermined his excuse - losing “25lbs of muscle” - for being knocked out in the rematch.

He beat him in a very close fight, some had Tarver winning too

Then he gets sparked and beaten decisively in the next two

I don’t get it. He could have beaten Holy, Oquendo, Barrett, McCline, Toney. All Ring Top 10 in 2003/2004.

Will never understand it. He looked great at HW. I get it was Ruiz, but he showed speed the division hadn’t seen in forever. He hit hard enough to hurt Ruiz, which wasn’t expected.

He could have beaten all those guys I listed.

Yup, I agree wholeheartedly. You can even throw in Chris Byrd - although I think that fight would’ve been competitive. Never before in the history of all of boxing has one single punch so completely changed the career of a fighter. Roy was often dogged by fans for picking the path of least resistance; the one time he didn’t, in listening to His his critics and granting Tarver a rematch, he was ethered with one punch.
Have you ever made a decision that you regret? A decision, that in hindsight, has impacted your life and you think to yourself, “What in the hell was I thinking?!” Chances are we all have...now just imagine how Jones feels.

False. He looked like crap in the first fight. Had he never moved to heavyweight, he beats Tarver's arse like the rest of them. Wide decision or stoppage. He barely squeeked by in the first fight. He was clearly emaciated body wise. He literally looked as if Aliens abducted him and removed 40% of his muscle mass.
