This might sound a little ******ed but recently I've been having problems with this simple combo. My problem is that when I get to the hook i seem to be in no mans land in terms of range and therefore off throw off balance. This means I cant get any rythm going.Anyone got any advice regarding this or range and balance would be greatly appriciated. Peace out.

I'm not really sure how to provide any helpful advice but what I do is I don't really throw the jab with intent, I plant myself and use the jab not to land but primarily to find my range, then follow it with the cross and then I tend to lunge forward abit with a shortish hook.

Is primarily range or balance your having a problem with?

Try to step foward a little bit instead of leaning which would cause you to be off balance, that's how i used to throw my punches lol. But just take short steps into your punches instead of planting your feet and leaning especially if you can't gauge your range.....

I think stepping into the hook is the key here maybe, just keep practising!

Its best to throw this combination with your opponent on the ropes, so as you throw the jab-cross they have no where to go and cannot move away so when you step with your jab, throw your cross, your left hook will be a short. If you do it in the middle of the ring, they might move back from the jab-cross making you throw a pretty useless long hook which probably wont land.

Also, if you know your going to throw a jab-cross-hook, when you step with the jab DONT step straight towards your opponent, instead, step forward and across to the left so your lead is maybe half a foot to a foot further to the left then normal. This will help you throw your hook.

And also get into the habit of "moving" after you throw your combos to reduce the chance of getting hit with a clean counter shot.

i have a weird way of throwing it i use every now n then to set up a powerful hook. i jab normally and throw the right normally but load up and step forward as i pivot for the left hook and it becomes a southpaw's left hook as i throw it. its hard to explain but gives people fits when i use it, changes my range and body position significantly and really just throws people off.
