Probably because people still have that viceral image and scary, thudding sound of Tommy landing that rocket right on Roberto's jaw. I thought I was watching a Batman episode and the screen goes black with BLAM written in highlights across it

I wouldn't be surprised to see you as a mod on these boards in the immediate future. Your knowledge and dedication to the cause are admirable and impressive.

Foreman vs Briggs is a great mention!
Really shows the essentials of timing over speed.

Pat Cowdell v Jimmy Flint. Pity there doesn't seem to be any film of it these days. I'm sure the Beeb covered it at the time.

Ali vs Quarry 1, Ali's jab was like a cobra for that fight.

That’s a little misleading for a couple of reasons. It was fully evolved to the modern standard by the 50s, but it hadn’t been for very long. So there’s been a much bigger pool to choose from after that point. 70 years worth of fights since compared to maybe a decade‘s worth prior.

Not to mention that other important difference: footage.

    Hagler-Hart
    Hagler-Briscoe
    Hagler-Sibson
    Hagler-Hamsho I

The scary part is that he might have had better offerings apart from those four.

Even though he lost the fight Jake LaMotta had a sneaky, powerful upjab he used against taller fighters. He had good success with walking down Ray for 11 rounds. LaMotta was scoring with his jab consistantly. He was giving away height as well.

Or maybe people know more about times they live in? Besides, there is much more footage from second half of century than the first one. Almost nobody knows about Fitzsimmons jabbing clinic against Maher because people can't watch this fight.
