Hey guys, Just got the Don Familton DVD's (Just heard he died - very sad :verysad)... In the DVD's he discuss' in great detail stepping into the jab. I have always known this but the way he teaches it is as follows: Three steps: Weight on the back, weight on the front, weight on the back Push Off: As the weight lands on the back - explode off and extend the jab As Strike Lands: Bring jab back to guard Been practicing and thought it worked really well... does anyone else use this method of jabbing? (This may well be the typical boxing method of jabbing, but remember I'm a Thai fighter)
Off the backfoot as in moving back jabbing, my front foot slides back a lil, plants and POP ! Not sure if its the correct way but it also means im ready to pivot on it as well, say i go to jab again moving back but pivot holding ground POP Weight is only on the backfoot if leaning back defensively to make em miss then hook or right uppercut counter.
If I'm moving backwards while jabbing, the jab usually lands when my right (back) foot lands. But you can step with the back foot first, then jab when you retreat the front foot. It's not really different to jabbing while moving sideways. If you go left you can step left and land the jab as the left foot hits the floor (similar to stepping forward) but you can also land it while you get the back foot back in place. Not sure if it makes sense the way I said it.
all straight punches should be thrown with the majority of the weight and momentum coming from the back foot, except of course when you are on the retreat and you should push your weight off the lead foot
